A pub not far away has introduced karaoke.
The sound is not very good.
Then it is a home stereo.

I know that right now desperate measures are in place.
Are things as desperate in the states?

But then Mr. home stereo is doing karaoke.

I picked my gear up today after last nights show.
Regular entertainment has been axed.
Since about march his food trade has been subsidising the karaoke.

Some of you will have seen on YouTube what I do.
It's not a bad show.

I have failed.

This past Friday the karaoke hosts from the bar down the road showed up at our friend's show because they had no one at theirs. They said they stopped in at the bar next door and there was no one there, either. So the Friday and Sat shows at our venue are the only two viable ones left in the immediate area and we are both barely making it. The bar cut it's hours and staff on the non-karaoke days. It has just been the last three months that it got so bad.

I don't think you failed. You know there was no one at the "competition," either. Some areas are in for a rough ride.

I don't think you failed Jerry. too many other factors involved that were not under your control added up to the end result. if the rest of the week was sinking as you mentioned, no mater how good your show, the venue was losing business. as all these problems with economy, piracy, etc. SHOULD only leave the best and strongest KJ's untouched, i think the economy will only leave the best and strongest venues untouched. check mr. $50.00 bar when he is not there, and then when he is. i bet there wont be a difference.......except for maybe a lot more "anything Metallica" being screamed poorly.

Piracy has nothing to do with this.
There is no pirate taking over.

The pirate pubs are feeling it.

Our Mister home stereo can't even afford a pirate.
Over here I reckon more than half of our pubs are going to fold.

My sympathies, Jerry. I'm sure you ran a great show. Hang in there.

Start rant:
Free Trade sucks - bring back tariffs
End rant:

i didn't mean to make it as piracy was causing it, poor choice of words on my part.
this economy is putting the clamps to a lot of people, and unfortunately good people like you get caught in the troubles. you can at least hold your head high that you were not the reason and hang on tight, we are all bucking for you.

Unfortunately, in the UK, it's "blue laws" making it impossible for the pubs to turn a profit, not the economy. The government has put impossible restrictions and regulations on running a pub to control alcohol consumption "for the good of the people."

No, not the blue laws. That doesn't give us a problem.
In January this year the BBC announced the recession was over.
The media pretty much control most of the population.
So people started spending.
Then it was announced that the recession wasn't over but will get worse.
People attacked the super markets for cheap beer and the pubs started emptying.
They can drink at home, smoke and watch a good movie.
The recession is hitting us hard.
Wages in many areas are dropping.
Not just in entertainment.

Stuff like opening shop on a sunday.
What you might call moral issues.
Dates back a long time.

Generally, restrictions placed on any type of commerce or activity for moral or religious reasons. Here in the Southern US it was common for it to be illegal for ANYTHING to sold on Sundays until the mid 60's.

The restrictions in already in place on pubs the UK are pretty draconian, and from what I understand from friends over there, Parliament is trying to enact even more stringent measures.

Yes you are quite right.
They are trying to introduce a minimum price for alcoholic drinks.
Cheap stuff at the supermarket is causing binge drinking.
They quite rightly want to stop it.
They will probably increase the tax on alcohol. :crying2:
