I think that "hacks" tick you off because you take great pride in your technical expertise and finding someone doing your job who has no clue by your standards is essentially like saying that your technical expertise are not necessary or useful. That ticks me off too.

Just to be clear, it's not just the lack of technical skills that leads me to calling them hacks. A DJ that never addresses the crowd and has no rhyme or reason to his music selection is failing in all aspects of the job in my book. Yes, technical failures do annoy me too, but that's not my only measure.

OK but if they are annoying, why don't the patrons seem to find it annoying? Maybe that's why I get annoyed, they suck and yet no one really seems to notice or care. Maybe my real annoyance is with the patrons that can't tell the difference between crap and something a little shinier?

If they have never had anything different, they won't know. We are no where near being sound engineers but we started off with a little better equipment than others. People had been fine with the karaoke as it was. Suddenly they started asking the other hosts to fix their sound. If you came into our neighborhood, we'd be dead.

The patrons DONT KNOW ANY BETTER! They have yet to aquire the CULTURED KARAOKE TASTE that the rest of us here have!!

Rip, I believe this is it - I get annoyed that people aren't complaining like mad about poor sound quality, yet are gushing when it sounds good.
