I've been using three of them for 2 - 1/2 years now. One hasn't gotten that much use, but another dual set has done well over a hundred-fifty gigs and a dozen drops with no appreciable damage. They still sound great, and continue to run 4-5 gigs on a single AA battery. That makes for a very low cost of ownership.

I wouldn't put the sound up with the higher end mics, but it is better than the VocoPro 5800 and a lot better than the cheapo ones.

Almost click the "buy it now" until I read the listed frequencies. It was on the 700 MHz band

Transmitter one - Green - 748.875mhz
Transmitter two- Purple - 751.550mhz

No mention of the FCC banned freq. I wonder how ebay can allow this. There should be a disclaimer saying overseas use only or words to that effect.

Alrighty, the AKG WMS40's arrived today,, gonna give 'em a whirl tonight. I will let you all know what I think of them. Wish me luck.

As promised, here is my review of the AKG WMS40 mics. Easy to set up for sure. I plugged them directly into the same mixer channels as I would have used my Sennheiser E835's. These channels are my compressed channels. Actually had to turn up the levels a lot!! Gain and volume. But had to EQ them down a little on the lows and also the highs just a wee bit. I had zero feedback issues at all. The sound was really good after getting it all set up. Got some great compliments on them. EVERYONE loved them. Especially the more talented singers. Drawbacks I found, first one is the battery they sent was a piece of junk, but that was easy to fix. Second the battery cover doesn't want to stay in tight, they are easy to take off or just get bumped and fall off. This one I will give some thought as to how to fix. Third, they are not as "hot" as my Sennheisers,,, the singers needed to keep the mics much closer than they would the Senny's. The plactic case concerns me a little, but will take a "wait and see" attitude on it.

Overall, if I had to give them a score of 1-10, I would probably give them an 8. Compared to my Sennheisers I would give a 9. Love the sound overall, just will take some getting used to and make some considerations on some things.

I was also worried about this when I first got it. In practice, we have never had a problem in hundreds of gigs. They are tight enough, but not so tight you mangle them when you need to get them open. Remember, a good AA alkiline should last 30 hours or so.

Mickey, the one cover actually did pop out last night. It is possible I didn't have it in all the way, but still of concern. And the batteries they supplied were junk, but I was prepared and bought a pack of fresh ones, and did have to change the one already. But that was OK.

One question I would like to ask tho is, how do I tell when it's time to change the battery? Do I just wait for the mic to die? or is there an indication of when its time to change batteries?

You do have to make sure you get it in properly. Once you do, we don't tend to see them pop out. We have had the little color-code triangle go in both of ours, though.


When the status LED goes red (normally green when switch is up), it's time to change them. You will still probably get an hour after it first goes red.

Hi all.

I've had the AKG WMS40 dual for about 9 months now, and recently they have started acting a little squirrelly. It's like they started interfering with each other, bleeding over into each others frequency and causing interference. Turning one off/on would fix the problem. Last night, however, the second mic gave up the ghost and was filled with high freq hiss and distortion. It's possible that it could have been something new near the venue causing interference, but with the way they have been acting up at all three venues I think it may be the system.

I want to buy these, but the FCC says no. What is the deal here, can I get these mics or not? FCC website says no, but no one on here seems to pay that much attention. What am I missing? thanks - jim

Jim, they should be a legal system to use. If the FCC is saying different, then show them the frequencies that would be available. The set I have is on 660.20 and 662.30. I think that AKG is not going above the 690.00 range, so they should be just fine.

They had older sets in the now banned range, but the newer sets are in acceptable ranges. The model numbers are the same. Reputable stores are prohibited from selling the banned range sets (of any mic).

Just barely put my set in the mail to return for some warranty work. One of the mics is having some issues (described earlier). So, now it's just waiting for them to return in about 2 weeks hopefully. Me is crossin' me fingers, me eyes and me legs..

well I'm going to get them if Lon likes his. but if not, 2 strikes would be too much for me to risk it.

Jim, I actually like them, a LOT!! The handling noise is a bit high is the only real down side to them. Mine needing some warranty work seems to be a fluke. It doesn't happen very often. I actually recommend these mics. They feel good, sound good and NO feedback issues AT ALL! The battery life is a very good bonus as well. I think Lonnie would agree with me too.

Haven't tried them yet, forgot the right cords last night. Tonight will be the test. Although the handling noise is going to be my primary concern.

Lonnie,, my recommendation on the handling noise issue is simple,, don't use stands if its possible. When these mics are held in the hand only, they are pretty quiet. It's the noise that comes from the plastic on the case is rattled against the mic clips.. If you just hand the mics to the singers, then you can control the handling noise quite a bit. Just a suggestion.

I agree with Scott, the handling noise, while present when handled in hand, is pretty minimal specially if the singer holds on to it, rather than twist it around.
