Congratulations to Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow on keeping the number one spot for this year!
Our survey this year had some interesting results. Our first survey completed 18 months prior was only done with 2 companies and a total of 30 bars and 1000 shows. We opened this one up to all companies submitting data from across the USA. We had results provided from Pennsylvania, Michigan, California, Florida, Nebraska and Arizona. Most of the companies outside our area do not update music weekly like we do and they do not have the selection of harder rock that we do.. This resulted in a more mainstream result in the survey and more traditional or classic music did better.
Much to the dismay of many Karaoke Jocks around the country, Picture by Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow maintains it's hold on the top spot. Most of us love the song, and both artists, but honestly we are getting tired of hearing it. It was sung at over 60% of all shows polled this year! Maybe if we are allowed to screen the singers and only allow it to be sung by singers we approve, we might handle hearing it nightly a bit better.
7 of our top 10 songs remained the same. Behind an internet youtube parody-fest, Bohemian Rhapsody crashed back into the top 10. The Fugees keep killing us softly with this song! And yes, people, Baby still got BACK!
Look out top 10, the Ladies, Gaga and Antebellum are knocking hard at the door to the top and will probably be there next year! Pink, the Black-Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, and Toby Keith all hit the list repeatedly and Carrie Underwood keeps notching hits. Lady GaGa, Lady Antebellum, Ke$ha, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift and Pink had multiple hits and all moved up greatly..
Florida and the heartlands of the USA made artists like John Mellencamp, George Strait, Jimmy Buffet, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bob Seger all do much better this time around. Harder rock groups like Metallica, Guns N Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, AC-DC and Pearl Jam, all moved down slightly to make room for more mainstream acts.
The top 500 songs in our survey account for over 50% of all songs sung at Karaoke shows.
Top 1000 songs - over 70% of all performed songs
Top 1500 Songs - 79% of all performed songs
Top 2500 Songs - 93% of all performed songs

I usually find lists like this to be pretty useless, but it looks like this list represents a big sample and actually nails it. I would say 90% of those songs in the top 200 are also in the top 200 at my bar.
The moral of the story is if you are just starting out, you want to start your library with these songs!

Looks to be pretty close representation to many. Although I think it would be different in our show, the Top 10 alone would be quite a bit different with I Need You Now - replacing Picture.

It seems to be fairly accurate based on what I've seen performed around here. In some cases that's because there's one or two people who do the same song(s) every time they perform. At one place I used to go to, a guy did "Sweet Caroline" every single night, or at least every night I was there. Actually, now that I think about it, it seems to be mostly bartenders who do that.
I've done over 200 songs, but I've never done any that were on the top 50 on the list. The highest one I've done was #53, "Under the Bridge." I've only done 3 out of their top 100. It picks up a little after that, but fewer than half my selections would make their top 500. I guess that's good, although I guess it would be fine if they were all in the top 500 too.

On my regular shows, I probably only average 1-2 songs from the top 50 combined per 3 hour show (50 songs).

Wow, Runaround Sue is a great song. I sing it in my shows and it never fails to get the crowd going and on the dance floor. Same with Who Put the Bomp, Johnny Be Goode, Surfin' Safari and Only The Good Die Young. Love those oldies!

Lonnie, if I ever have the good fortune to make it out to one of your shows, I'll definitely change that.

I'm really surprised that "You Gave Me A Mountain" is the top Elvis Presley song in the list. None of my favorite Elvis songs are even in the list.
There are lots of songs in that list that I don't recognize at all. Apparently, I'm very quickly getting very old.

With a small % of exceptions, this lists seems to follow the following formula:
Long Lasting Top 40 Radio Airplay + Low to mid tempo + Limited vocal dynamic range = KARAOKE HIT!

Odd,,, I have the same singer sing all three of those songs at one of my shows. How ironic is that?

Great list of the 2010 Survey for Top 500 Karaoke Songs All Time. Thanks
I think it depends on the patrons that come to the show. I have both the young 11 - 18 and the adults/seniors (18 – 70 yrs old).
The young ones tops Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber.
16 – 25: Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Taio Cruz, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Lady Antebellum, Jason Mraz
26 – 35: Michael Buble’, Brooks & Dunn, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts
35 on up: Classic Rock, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Humperdinck, Cline
The most popular songs performed at my show (night after night): Taylor Swift “Love Story”, Michael Buble’ “Sway”, Jason Mraz “I’m Yours”, Diamond “Sweet Caroline”, Sinatra “New York, NY”, Patsy Cline "Crazy”, Celine Dion "Because You Loved Me"

I still get a good reaction out of all those when I do them, Mr. Scott so it doesn't shock me.
