I've actually thought about using a midi controlled dedicated keychanger, with midi control support. I can't find such a beast though.

The best we can do is offer users choice by adding midi control as an option, and that coupled with ASIO output will allow people to use whatever software keychanger they want (through a DAW like protools/reaper) They can use [url=

Should the day ever come that there's an external midi controlable pitch change effects box, we'll already be lined up to support it.

Weedy, you are the guy to do this.
Key change is after all simply playing the music back at a faster or slower speed.
This is not a tempo change.
I did it electronically back in the 80's.
Is it more difficult to do the software side?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Jerry but I have been tinkering with one key changer idea or another for years now and still can't make it work any better than the existing ones. I know a lot of ways it won't work and not one that does.

You do like to tilt at windmills.

Key changers work well enough for the intended purpose. No matter what it does to a music track, what sounds worse is a voice outside its tessitura straining and cracking to reach notes it isn't meant to reach.

Also, even though I can actually reach a lot of notes, I don't sound nearly as good in that range. So I lower (or raise, for Josh Turner, Johnny Cash, et al) the key.

A digital key changer does nothing to the speed. I had an old Pioneer player with Aux input and was able to change the key of outside sources that the audio was just plugged into the player.

Sorry.
Should have said read from memory faster or slower.

I use winamp's pacemaker plug in all of the time and it's ability to speed up the track for any speed loss the key change might cause is a great feature.

Repeat after me:

The key change doesn't cause any speed loss.

There, that oughta do it.

What are you planning on using for key changer?

Initial support is in for the soundtouch library (which is what pacemaker is built on)
http://www.surina.net/soundtouch/index.html

There are other pitch changers. I won't say which one, but the quality is leaps and bounds better. Problem is this..

Since most of these other pitch changers are closed source and windows only, we're really limited on what we can bundle with the new player.

Have you considered possibly using one of the LADSPA plugins, or something based off of them?

Well, it sure sounds like it does and turning up the tempo a notch or two seems to make the music sound better to my ears. If you don't need it, don't use it.

I think Pacemaker that is used on Winamp does speed and slow for tempo and can be readjusted with something else to slow it back down, it's not your typical digital key changer.

It keeps tempo on pitch correction. It's just the bass starts sounding like farts in one direction. Pitch up starts making weird artifacting clicking noises.

It's not bad past 1 or 2 steps though.
