The Peavey IPR 1600 is 300 watts/channel @ 8 ohms.

$299.00 for the standard version.
$449.00 for the DSP version.

The Peavey IPR 3000 is 500 watts/channel @ 8 ohms.

$399.00 for the standard version.
$599.00 for the DSP version.

The price is very good for the non-DSP version. Even the DSP version looks like an amp with a scaled-back DriveRack PA integrated, with pre-sets for Peavey speakers.

So, I guess the question is, how much wattage do you need, and do you need the DSP. There are certainly better amps in this price range (QSC GX5 is the perfect 700 watts/ch. into 4 ohms that your speakers need), but not at 8 lbs. I'd say these are a pretty good buy, but not a bargin. I also wouldn't bother with the DSP version until you are ready to upgrade speakers.

Amplifiers often sacrifice the quality of their individual parts to become lightweight, so it is a give and take. The QSC GX5 is a perfect compliment to your current speakers, and will undoubtable sound better than these Peavey amps, BUT, 8 lbs!!!! That is ridiculous!

Haven't used them yet, but have seen mostly favorable reviews on them.
As far as power, i'd probably opt for the IPR3000 for those speakers. Although honestly unless you are getting those speakers higher than the crowd, they aren't really suited for karaoke.

There's only one problem with the IPR3000 that I know of and that is that you can't get them because for some reason Peavey either isn't manufacturing them or ???? I've been interested in them for around a year and have given up hope that they will ever be available. For around $369-$389 you can get a Behringer EPX3000 on ebay that has about 900wpc@4ohms, built in crossover, limiter, bridgeable and is able to go down to 2ohms. Behringer may not be the greatest manufacturer, but I have read nothing but good things about their amps. I believe the EPX3000 weighs around 20 pounds. If anyone knows of a better deal out there please let me know . . .

I'd LOVE to get a reasonably priced amp that weighs 8 pounds, Peavey would have a huge winner if they ever came out with the IPR3000.

I am not aware of anyone who actually has the IPR3000 in stock, or has been able to get one. These amplifiers have been delayed well over a year. Peavey says the problem is parts availability.

The reviews I've read of the IPR1600 are basically what you'd expect, good amp for the price, very light-weight, but don't plan on running it into 2 ohms per channel because it will overheat if driven hard. Still, a great value for the right setup.

The DSP is significantly less powerful than on the Crown XTi amplifiers, the only real direct competitor to the IPR DSP. It's a whole lot better than the analog crossover features built into many inexpensive amplifiers. EDIT: It is much better than the simple one in the Behringer EPX3000. END EDIT.

When the higher-powered versions of the IPR amplifiers eventually ship, the 4500 and 6000, they will not be capable of 2 ohms per channel, or 4 ohms bridge, operation. This is a design limitation that is well-understood by Peavey, and is the reason they have not included a bridge mode on the lower-powered models (to keep that feature, or lack of, consistent across the product line.)

EDIT: The Behringer EPX3000 is another good amplifier for the money. Again, the built-in crossover is largely useless; but in its job of, well, driving speakers, it works well and offers a lot of power for the money. I own two of them and am likely to buy one or two more in the next few months as I replace a heavy RMX2450 and upgrade my B-rig subwoofers. If I was unhappy with the ones I own, I wouldn't be buying more! :)

I would be willing to bet that 90+ % (probably even higher) of karaoke users do not run their rigs at 2 ohms - probably would be maybe 60-70 % of that might even run at 4 ohms.
