Hi All,

After hours of trawling through web i found this place, and you've all come up as the best bet to finding the answers i need!......Hopefully anyway!

Basically, i've been hosting karaoke parties for some time now and decided its time to make the move to digital and base the system around a laptop...this has presented all sorts off issues.

The main one, and one i'm looking for advice on is how to transfer my collection. All the songs i have so far are on DVD, VCD or CD-G and the amount of disks has become unmanagable so i want to get them onto my hard drive.

First off, is it possible? I've looked around and the programs i've found (handbrake chopper etc) dont seem to work. Am i going about it the wrong way?

The DVD karaoke disks are in VOB format..which doesn't really mean a lot to me.

Have i got to start my collection again? I've got around 3000 songs

Also, software wise i was looking and PCDJ Karaoki as it seems pretty good. Or would the free Karafun do the same job?

Any advice would be great!

The only ones I know know of that will read and catalog vob and other video files is MTU Hoster, although I have never had a DVD for karaoke so not exactly sure how it works.
As for the CDG's you just need to rip them all to hard drive (time consuming but worth it in the end), there are several programs that will do this and you also need a drive capable of reading the subcode on cdg's.

Maybe its beter if i convert them? I've managed to rip either the video, or the music from the VOB file but never both at the same time and i dont think i can combine them

There must be a way? or am i being optimistic?

Well, if the majority of your tracks was VOB files and you just want to store them all at the same place w/o having to carry dozens of DVDs, you could transfer them to an external USB hard drive and use a karaoke player w/ USB port capable of playing the VOB format, e.g. the RSQ NK-2000U.
If the VCD files were MPG or DAT, the RSQ or other karaoke players will most likely play them from the USB hard drive as well.
Then again, you probably do not want to buy another piece of hardware apart from the USB capable external hard drive... Besides, I do not know your hardware setup, in terms of whether or not it makes any sense to add a karaoke player

It has been a long time since I did it....I think you will have to manually name the files.

Winamp will also play VOB files, to learn how see the second post on this page.
