okay advice needed for a PA noob again -

just got my QSC GX5 which I am using to power a pair of EV SX300s with a yamaha emx512SC powered mixer.

Before I got the amp,
Powered Mixer audio channel to play my karaoke music was set at 9.00 (o clock)
Powered mixer master volume on 1.00 (o clock)

Now with an amp in the picture do I need to change any of these settings? should amp gain be higher than source gain? Should master volume on my mixer be higher than channel volume?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

Vic in Sydney

Don't have time to look but does that desk have a line out?

Sorry, I'm at work.
Do not feed your amp from the main out of the desk.
Only Slave or line out.
Get an unpowered desk mate.

You need to feed the amp from the line output located at the front and NOT the one that you currently use to drive your speakers.

Incorrect!

To connect this particular mixer/amp to an external amp, he would need to connect the MAIN OUT jacks located on the front of the board to the input on the GX5. The MAIN OUT is the 'line' or 'pre-amp' output.

He would NOT hook the GX5 to the speaker outputs of the mixer in any way.

The master volume seems a little high - shouldn't need to be turned up that high. I would try running the music channel as high as it will go before clipping (yellow led barely starts lighting then back down a tad). Same with the mic channels. Your master volume shouldn't need to be turned up no higher than 9-12 oclock if set correctly.

I have always ran my amps wide open since your mixer is going to be your volume controller.
No your channel volume should be as high as they can be without clipping (and still keeping a balanced mix) and your main volume should be lower (usually).
