So for farts and knockers, I wanted trivia on my screen tonight. I'm running MIRC on my karaoke screen, and a trivia bot mirc plugin.

mirc plugin.

I'm digging it. If you don't have internet access, you can always run an IRC server on your karaoke box.

I've been thinking about this for a few days now.. perhaps it's a cultural thing.. but I just don't get it.

What's the point? To have people waiting to sing next shout out answers while the current person is singing?

Or maybe your patrons are using jailbroken iPhones and able to use Terminal to telnet into a local IRC server on your network?

It's on the same screen as the karaoke lyrics, so the entire bar can see it. For the folks waiting, it just gives them something else to do. In the last 2 weeks running it, I notice tables will discuss the answers themselves, and when the answer is displayed you'll hear a "OHHHHH" from them.

You don't need a jailbroken anything. Most mobile browsers can use the web based IRC client at www.efnet.org

It's just an extra distraction people seem to enjoy. I don't think it's a cultural thing as most of my clientele is mixed raced, with ages ranging from 21 to 60's.

Interesting.

C'mon Cheese, you make assumptions and in the meantime cut down others ideas.

Well.. perhaps I shouldn't have said 'cultural' and instead should have said 'regional'.

While the idea of having trivia.. as perhaps part of a crawl or band across the bottom of the house video system along with the lyrics sounds like a very cool thing to add to a show, I know in my area if my lyrics screen looked anything like yours.. with all those different things going on, people would complain about it being distracting.

Knowing the people at my shows.. they'd start singing the trivia questions to the beat of the music.

I really do like the idea of implementing a trivia crawl (which could also include other information, like next singer, current drink specials, upcoming entertainment, etc) at the bottom of the house video feed.

I probably should have cropped it down to *just* the karaoke screen, and not the entire desktop. It really looks more like this to the singer.

There's some extra stuff, not much though.

-VU meters on the left to tell singers how loud they are in relation to the music.

-Something to display the amount of reverb/echo is being applied in the lower right(I got a lot of folks that shout out "GIVE ME 42%" or whatever)

-Countdown timer, so they know how long until their song ends

And that's it, well karaoke and trivia.

How are you able to display the amount of reverb applied to the vocal channel and the vocal channel levels?

Are running the vocals through your PC? Or using a USB mixer that has an app that can display that kind of information?

Countdown timer i'm sure comes in handy.. especially since you've mentioned your patrons pretty much cue themselves, so knowing when the current song is about to end would be useful information not only for the current singer, but also for the next singer in line.
