Just something to look into.
I haven't tried it further than this as I know there are a lot of file names I have with comma's in the name.
Thanks
YOU WERE RIGHT.... I forgot to test for the comma in the "Artist - Title - DiscID-Track#" selection. (my fault.... the sun was in my eyes, I had a flat tire, an army buddy came into town, there was a flood, locust..... please don't kill me! -- Jake Blues)
I have fixed it and corrected the program as well as the installation file.
I have also now included the option to reverse the artist names. So now you will have a choice of whether you want the names to be reversed or not.
If you want the installation file you can get it here:
http://dkusa.com/FreeBookLink/FreeBook.exe
If you want JUST the correction click on BOTH of these links and save the files in the "C:\book" folder or wherever you installed the program initially:

Thanks Lone Wolf!

Thanks... I had to come up with something that would fit in my minivan. The neck of this cart is adjustable so I lower it to travel and raise it to use it. Plus, I can keep it low if I'm doing a party for little (short) kids. It is literally "plug n play" now.
BTW, the computer that's pictured is literally one that was rescued from certain destruction when a company tossed it out. Consequently, it has zilch for ram, a teensy hard drive, Win '98 and all I did was add a $30 wireless network card and an ebay-purchased touch screen monitor.
I made another couple out of old laptops I bought at a garage sale for $25 and they had dead keyboards... so I plugged in a usb keyboard to configure it and load it and have a touchscreen monitors for them too so they are "tabletop versions." Here's a pic from a test run of multiple kiosks (there were actually 3 in the room at the time.)
The touch screen monitors were purchased off Ebay for about $70 each and they were originally part of a "picture kiosk" used at drugstores. I simply velcro them to the desk stands.

Velcro? I just let the singers spill sugary drinks around the base until it dries and forms a glue.

Haha no doubt. I remember the first time I found out that one of my touchscreens was glued, I was amazed at the tensile strength of dehydrated high fructose corn syrup.
Sounds like we both war stories to swap in kiosk QA and development.

Your quite welcome Chip. One thing that I like to do do is take a program and work with it to see if there are bugs. I have found some even with Latshaws song book and told them about it and they fixed it.
If I find anymore I'll let ya know.
Waiting for Toger to get the new AUTOKJ on board so I can start playing with it to help him fine tune it.
Lone Wolf
OH YEA the new version works now but still playing with it.

You got me thinkin'.... (dangerous as that may be)
I tested out the RTF file-writing time on a database of 10,368 tracks. Now, keep in mind that this time is what is timed after a disk scan. Although there wasn't one in this case, I can with most certainty guess that a disk scan of this magnitude would take approximately 1.5 minutes including the temporary database build.
Anyway, the file writing time for this database was all of 25 seconds to write both the titles listing and the artist listing.

The program also created a file for use with the kiosk as well. If you don't have "SONGFINDER", that file is useless right? It can just be deleted if you're strictly uSing this to create a song book and not using it to search for songs?

THANK YOU CHIP!!!!!!!!!!
The wife and I where just getting ready to go thru the dreaded task of re-printing songs books, and I was gonna have to refresh myself on Excell to get a 2-column per page format, cause our books were getting to big.
BUt you have SAVED ME, and thanks again!!!!!!
And upon trying the proggy, I found another possible issue....
on the RTF by song title, I got the song 'Til A Woman Comes Along on the first page before the songs that start with numbers because of the '.
But again, THANKS!!!!!!

Absolutely it is the single apostrophe. They sort higher than any letters do. The single apostrophe is ascii character 39 where the uppercase "T" is ascii character 84.
Look in the "Error.txt" file for any that it couldn't resolve at all and skipped.
Here's an ascii character chart and you can see why all the punctuation and numbers sort higher than letters:

yep... just trash it if you like.... The "Kiosk.csv" file you can ope with Excel... you can do the same with "hoster.dat" if you rename it to "hoster.csv" first.
They are both just text files. The only files you need there are the *.RTF files. All of the files will be overwritten every time you run the program anyway.

Okay, here's the IMPROVED VERSION:
Modifications:
1. Added "REMOVE ALL DUPLICATES" function. This means that all the duplicates will be removed. Sorry, it doesn't give you a choice of brand, but it will work. Be advised: Because this function involves several "comparison tests" it is very time-intensive. It will take a few minutes to run so be patient. You'll see a counter as it goes up and at the end, you'll also see what the final count was in your book.
2. Added "DO NOT PRINT DISC ID" function. This means that the leader dots AND the disc ID will NOT appear in either the song title or artist section.
3. Changed FILE DESTINATIONS. All files will now be written to the same folder as the program and NOT to the root of drive C:
Please NOTE:
1) If you have already downloaded and installed this program, then you ONLY need TWO files below. You MUST place these files in the same folder as the files you have already installed. The default folder location is: C:/book
http://dkusa.com/FreeBookLink/Mp3gBook.exe
http://dkusa.com/FreeBookLink/mp3g1.exe
2) If you have NOT already downloaded and installed this program, then you can do so here:
http://dkusa.com/FreeBookLink/FreeBook.exe
As usual, give it a try and let me know how it works.... (be nice, remember it's still free.)

Yes they will be much smaller. Since last time I printed have added about 2K in songs. And after printing with your program, by books will actually be about 20 pages less than last time I printed.
