My current setup is an Audio2000 AKJ7401 (500 w) powering JBL eon1500s. I’m looking to add a powered sub. The place I work at told me that I could leave the sub there, so lifting it is not a major issue, although I might need to slide it into a corner at the end of the evening.
I was looking at the eon 518S or the QSC K sub. Eventually I think I might like to purchase a pair of QSC K 12 speakers.
Would either of these be a decent match for my current system? Will I need an external crossover to use them? I’m open to suggestions. My budget is around $1100 to add the sub.

We found K-subs to be very disappointing.

QSC has a new model. I would look for a still in stock discounted QSC HPR 181i

The k-sub is pretty disappointing overall. All rumble and no thump is how I would best describe it. I also own a few rcf 705's that are pretty decent. I would check RCF out.

Ditto on K-sub. I wasn't impressed after hearing the demo. No tight low-end. I have a pair of K12 tops, they’re pretty decent, clear & lightweight (only 41 lbs).

I use QSC 181i for bigger venues. It’s a kick-a$$ sub capable of producing loud deep chest-pounding thump bass. I use the QSC 151i for smaller tight area & they are equally good IMHO.

Thanks for the replies. I'm a little surprised about the K Sub. I've heard the K 12 in a couple of different setups and was impressed with it. I'll check out the other subs mentioned.
Any advice on hooking a powered sub into my current system?

I use the K-sub with the K-12s and I find it does rather well for the music I'm playing. I don't get the deep booming low end but I get a nice tight thump when it's in the arrangement.

To be fair I didn't get that feeling when I ran through the K-sub to the K-12s but I added a Driverack PX to the chain and it really gave me the feel I wanted for the venue. Perhaps my ears are more forgiving than others or my tastes are different.

However I would hesitate to use the HPR 181i with the K-12 tops, I think you'd have a frequency hole, or the K-sub with my Yamaha C115V speakers without a real good crossover.

Depends on each cabinets frequency capability. 18" sub is ideal for a 12" top. As long as the crossover point is set there shouldn't be any kind of 'hole'.

The easiest, simplest and therefore best approach, short of spending hours in speaker research and real time analysis to come up with ideal placement, delays and crossover points (a qualification made because I already know the book worm answer that someone else is ready to post), is to run your main L & R outs into the powered sub, then run from the high-pass outputs to the amplifier you're using to power the JBL's.

I agree with Gryf. DBX DriveRackPX dramatically improve my sound system. More thump on the bass and more clarity on the tops. My favorite is the built-in Feedback Suppression that kills the nasty feedback from my soft singers. More vocal gains for them.
