This device is just now hitting the streets. It sounds like an easier to use, smaller version of the traditional auto-tune devices with other cool effects built in (the "t-pain" vocoder sound, etc).

And unlike the others it claims you don't need to pre-program it with song key info or give it a keyboard input to sync to.

Anyone got $299 burning a hole in their pocket? Razz

Would that be me? Jerry had a used Antares sent to us to try. Was able to do some things with it right out of the box--made the guy singing "Smooth" have the distorted voice, etc. Could easily switch in and out of it during the song.

Tried just "Female Voice" setting for pitch correction on a wailing Diva and even the Bartendress heard the difference and thanked us. Tried it on me and I couldn't help but smile at how effortlessly it made singing.

Boyfriend thinks it will take him a month to actually learn what he can do with it and how to do it properly. It does sound a bit "different" like you are inside a box but he may learn to get that out. Would probably bother people who know sound but the general audience thought it was great.

I could hear myself. Was only thrown off by the difference when I hit a really bad one and it really corrected and I lost the tune for a second. I think Bazza described this in the other thread. For minor stuff it didn't bother me.

I am not a fan of the techno/synthetic voice thing, being older. But what we found was the younguns were very excited about it. They are the techno generation and it speaks to them. We will see how long it keeps their interest. But I'm betting as it is "their" music right now, it may be fun to use for quite some time.

We were sort of unethical toward the Diva. We didn't tell her we were using it. We won't experiment on her in the future.

Other funny thing. I decided that with the Auto Tune as a crutch, I would attempt Pink's "Glitter In the Air." Was all excited about how easy it made it to belt out those two long notes in the middle until the boyfriend told me he had forgotten to turn it on. Oh. Wonder how bad I was.

Should also mention this is a different and older type unit than what Rip asked about. Was just commenting on how it went over in the past two shows when we tried it.

Third show we started to get feedback when using the female preset. Back to the drawing board on that one.
