The thing that bugs me the most about compuhost is how obnoxious it is at startup. Its ego is HUGE!
(Double click compuhost icon)
"Here I am!"
(open up another document to occupy you while compuhost loads)
"HERE I AM!!"
(bring said document back on top)
"WASSUP!!!"
(again with the document)
"I HOPE YOU AREN'T LOOKING AT ANYTHING IMPORTANT!"
(curse, and the document again)
"MINIMIZE? HAHA, NOT GONNA WORK ON ME PAL!"

And it only took them SIX YEARS to catch up to little old me and Sacks-O-Nuts. Where's another windmill I feel like having a tilt.

Needs some improvements, on the other hand has some nice ideas, too.

I not only had a kiosk, I had THE kiosk, the first one. Everyone said it was a dumb idea at the time. Vindicated at last!

If you're seriously looking at Kiosks, you should definitely look at Karaoke Songfinder. Fantastic program and all the bugs have been worked out long ago.

Compuhost is obnoxious? Never had any issues with it that would make me think that? It's up and running (searching for songs) in less than 30 seconds. It never overrides anything else I have up because I DON'T run ANYTHING else on it. Why would I? It's my show software and that's all I need.

Whether it's not the first ever or last, I don't care about that at this point. Is it the best? For the money is it worth it? Especially since I'm already running Compuhost software.

Sevarin, I take it you are using this? What's the pros and cons? Is this just a matter of setting up another monitor connected to my system for people to use? I'd like to keep my books and have one kiosk for computer savvy people that already know what they want and don't use the book for ideas.

NO you need a separate computer. It is as simple as leaving out one touchscreen monitor connected to the second computer. YOu need wifi capabilities but not a hotspot.

Wow, wifi? So if no wife available, can't run the computer? I could hotspot it from my phone if I want to pay the extra $20 per month for that.

Well I can't tell you what they use, but I can tell you this: a "WIFI" is much different than a "Wireless Network"

Karaoke Songfinder uses a wireless network (if you want wireless), or wired, or neither if you get a ticket (label) printer.

So it really doesn't matter how many songfinders you have in the room as long as each one has a different ID.

It might work on a wireless network. I know that I was able to setup a wireless network and get tricerasoft's kiosk to work before my kiosk computer grew legs (roommate problem).

I'm pretty sure it supports any network interface, WIFI, Wireless (the same in my book), or wired. I'm currently trying it out on a wireless network, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a wired network, simple windows networking I assume. I would say the most convenient (at least for me) would be a wireless configuration, all you need is a cheap $30 wireless router and you're good to go. Your singers can access the server through their smartphones, pretty cool actually. And if you have Internet access, they can do it without connecting to your wireless network, instead right through the web.

I would NEVER go WIFI.... too much trouble, hassle and chance for abuse..

BUT, if you want to make your own, here you go and don't forget to get the WIFI Router.... good luck:

I also compared their online manual to one of my "tools screen" on Songfinder... Found that 4 of the 6 elements on their screen were similar to the ones on mine that have been out for 6 six years....

Here's mine:

here's theirs:

My dream kiosk. Only if I have the dough to burn.......

I wonder if they will be interested in setting up one of these units at my venue to demo thereby increase their sales. LOLZ!

Build your own.... Just build a fancy box and bury a computer and touchscreen in it. That's all they've done and it won't cost you a zillion bucks.

Great advice C., but for me it's easier said than done. I’m not much of a handyman. I spent long hours with my brother in his garage listening on how to use the tools, none rubbed off on me. I’m not really handy in a sort of productive way. I have neither the patience nor the talent. I’d rather buy than build.

These were made out of modified 2-wheeled dollies by the company I purchased the dollies from. I simply drew out what I wanted and they did the rest. The modification was $100:
