What are some karaoke songs I could sing that are popular?
So every Thursday a group of family friends go out to this place for karaoke night, and my choir teacher always nags me to sing a real song, but I am too afraid. I was planning to surprise her this coming week and sing a real song! I am a Sop 1. I was wanting to do a recent song, but don't know which one. Help!

You will have to provide more information.
You give the people here nothing to go off.

Let's see. We don't know if you are a woman or a man, and we don't know your age. We don't know what country you live in, what your taste in music is. You didn't mention what your audience is or whether you are soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, or bass.

We ought to have enough to work with. Sing "These Boots Are Made For Walking". That was my first song.

She did say;

Quote:
I am a Sop 1.

Qualifies for all the really high stuff....

Besides, she doesn't need to sing "what is popular"... but "what she is comfortable with and/or good at" instead...

Thought that meant "I drink a bit".

I get people like that at my gigs.
"Hi! I've never been here before, what should I sing?"
"What do you like?"
"I dunno"
"What do you sing in the car/shower?"
"Oh, this and that"
(face palm)

This happened to me too:
"What do you think I should sing?"
Me: What do you want to sing?
"I don't know. That's why I'm asking you"
Me: Do you want a fast or slow song?
"I can't decide. Pick one for me".
Me: How about an easy Frank S. standard "New York, NY".
"No, I don't like that song".
Grrrrrr! Good thing I have unlimited tolerance for nincompoops!

My wife is a soprano and she does well with Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, and Linda Eder; and wonderfully with music sung by Olivia Newton John. Granted these artists have been around a while so the songs are not current but many are slowly becoming standards.

Just a thought; your mileage may vary.

Mummer's Dance - Lorena McKennitt - chorus is up in the rafters, perf for Sop 1. Lots of Whitney Houston is appropriate for Sop 1 as well.

My google must be broke.
I know there are Sop 1, 2, 3, 4.
Never heard of it before.
What are the differences?

I'd bet you a million bucks but then you could just ban them!
