Nope.... I prefer AKG... built like tanks... had a wireless used almost every night by customers and lasted 8 years... Great sound, wonderful range, 35 hour battery life (on 2 AA batteries)...

Yeah, but who does 35 hour gigs? I use rechargeable AA's and always pop em back in the charger at the end of the night. I honestly don't know how long my Shure's would go, but it really doesn't matter to me as long as they last through the night & sound great. Which they do.

Great thing about SM58s: Nobody sounds worse or better on them - no fancy mixing to get a decent sound. No matter how many times they drop, they just keep on ticking. Of all the gear we own, I KNOW the mics will always work. I have originals from 1996, picked up some that were slightly used, etc., and never have to worry.

I agree.

If you require better sound
Get a D5
That is,,, it does sound better than an SM58.
My D5's have only been dropped a few times though.
I would want someone else to do the drop test. :D

We have had great compliments on our AKG D5. Blues Singer loves anything AKG. But again, only been dropped once so far, knock on wood.

We have heard of so many OM2s going on the first drop (3 reports on here now?) that the boyfriend now uses that one as the announcer mic rather than put it out. We had to use it last week due to the wiereless being out and it started cutting out after one slam but luckily turned out to be the cord instead. Wish Bill H were still posting. He used them exclusively for young shows and could probably report on how they've lasted. As for sound, the men really preferred the OM2 but both the ladies and the men like the AKG.

Really should get a Shure someday..........

It's not that I really desire one. I just felt a bit left out. Thought it my duty to test one in order to speak with authority. But I don't need one right now.

Actually, I think we have a Shure of some sort in our bag of "Where did we get this?" Don't think it's an SM58, though.

Yes I went through the left out.

Got one on ebay. Sent it back. A forgery.
Bought one local music shop and sounded like the forgery.
They are simply not as full a sound as the D5.

I have a personal preference when I sing - Audix. But no need to complicate things at a show - I have 3 wired 58s, and I use a headset 58 for ease of operations.

I have a wired pg58 that I use on my computer for recording. And if I had to I would use it in a show but I have yet to lose one of my AKG wireless mikes due to drops. In fact I have yet to have them dropped. Then again I am not dealing with drunks at this time.
Just noticed the heading of this thread said mice not mike. LOL!

I had two wireless SM58, one stopped working after maybe a year? It was never dropped. I haven't bought any more Shure products. Right now I use a pair of Nady UHF10 (say what you want) and the AKG Duo. I am going to replace the Nadys with the Carvin wireless, and maybe the AKG too, depending how I like them. The AKG sound okay but I get static pops sometimes.

I never tried using any of my mics as a mouse though.

Yep it fesure said mice so I gathered my skirt and went eeeek! when I first read it...Now that you mentioned Mike, I'm pissed cause it was a guy named Mike that got my first girlfriend pregnant, or so she claimed....it all worked out tho cause I tripped in my heels and stepped on the mouse, and Mike ended up marrying her and the kid turned out mixed race.

All that aside, I myself like certain AKG mics

Karen I think you may have mis-spoken, the SM58 does not come in a headset config. Shure does make a lot of headset mics but not an SM58 (or Beta 58 for that matter).

My SM58 VHF wireless is approaching 16 years old; is used every gig; and is still my favorite mic by far. On the other hand, most of my singers prefer the Audio Technica UHF (don't remember the model)...

Hmmm come to think of it, perhaps my voice is so bad that they don't want to be associated with my preferred microphone. Ya just never know...

Yeah mice! Why are all you people talking about mics?

I can't compare to any you have listed as all I use are 58's, one is a beta however.

Both of my wireless mics are used. Sound great to me. Haven't heard anything I like better. I've also watched on the tube, whenever I see someone singing I watch the mic closely. Often times I've seen it be the 58.

Tough, great sounding, cost not out of this world. I'll stick with them. I do want to get one more wireless mics so I have 3 wireless and one wired. Looking for a good deal, used is ok.

He flies under the radar but Jerry is the man!

Can I say that? Or that too informal?

Yes there is a lot out there much better than the SM58.
When it came out and for a long time after it was THE MIC.
That was a long time ago. The drop test is awesome.
It is without doubt a good industrial standard.
There is so much better.
I would not swap my D5 for two SM58's.
I have 3 x D5's.

I use Audix OM-2 mics. I can't tell you how many times they've been dropped. I've never had one break yet. Knock on wood!
