Quote: Too many duplicates doing it that way. I'd not want to waste the money in that manner. I have approx 12K songs that are not duplicated out of 14K.
Yeah, but I bet you spent alot more than $4000.
No but I didn't waste any money either on songs repeatidly. Having a big song book just for the sake of having the illusion of a ton of songs is not necessary IMO. Besides all the SCDG discs you listed aren't legal to begin with but that is an entire different thread and will not go there here.
I use Fasttracks for my books and don't list duplicates. Fasttracks enables me to prioritize by brand. I also state in my book that I may have other brands available if the singer doesn't like the version I pick.

I apologize for my assumption.
Under the circumstances I believe the collection was bought in good faith.
As to whether it is a legit. collection I think the OP has reservations.
The decision to keep it all for the kids may be a wise one.
It should however be possible to tell which discs are copies and which are not.
It may still be possible to have a very respectable library the OP can use.

Now, this would have to be a lucky situation for sure, but it is DOABLE. Think of this one.. SGB collection, 69 bucks off ebay,,,, getting a used Monster Hits collection (had a friend who got one for 50 bucks), maybe an older Pioneer collection of cdg's,, (possible to attain for less than a $100, if lucky)... So there is a collection of over 5000 songs for about $200+... Now add to that some of the other cheaper brands out there,, it's very possible to get up to 10 thousand songs for well under a grand. Now, not saying these are versions that are top notch by any means, just saying it's actually possible to put together a sizable collection for not much money at all. And really not too many dupes either.
You know what? I was just sitting here thinking as well. I was wondering who would sell an entire collection of Monster Hits discs for $50. My opinion is that it would be someone who had already ripped them to his hard drive and wants to get back at least some of his money. Same thing with all of those unbelievable deals on e-bay. I knew a guy who bought all of the Bricks and Foundations and the entire DK Millenium set from e-bay. As soon as he finished ripping the discs, he put them right back up on e-bay and recouped his investment and uses those same files during his shows to this day.
Please don't urinate on my leg and tell me it's raining. People used to brag about how they swapped songs with other KJs to build up a better collection. Now they hide the fact that they have hundreds if not thousands of discs on CDR's and also on their hard drives. The reason Sound Choice is so successful in getting these people to PAY UP is because there are so many pirates out there that it is like shooting fish in a barrel. The only problem, for Sound Choice, is because there may be a handful of legal KJ's out there with 40,000 songs or more, they can't ASSUME that any one individual with 40,000 songs is guilty without some PROBABLE CAUSE. If the KJ says that he's has every disc at home in his closet, Sound Choice has to prove that he doesn't. Not the other way around. If Sound Choice can somehow get the guy to admit that he bought all of his tracks on a hard drive from a guy on e-bay....then they might be able to show probably cause against that particular KJ.
Or maybe Sound Choice already has a list of people who purchased hard drives on line from another law suit they are working on and they can use that person's customer list as probable cause.

Yes there are some legal KJs with large numbers of tracks...but there are many more pirates out there with many more songs than most legal KJs.
Playing the percentages, I'd have to say ARRRRRRRRRRR! Wisdom says its better that 10 guilty go free than to accuse one innocent. So the odds are then that every single one of the KJ's are pirates, including you Bruce. So sad to think there are people like you. Makes me weep.
Wisdom Shisdom...Thousands of innocent people died when we dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I'd also be PERFECTLY HAPPY if we dropped a bomb to kill Osama Bin Laden and a few thousand innocent people got killed in the process....just like the 3,000 innocent people that were killed on 911. If he's gonna use innocent people as a shield; those deaths are on him and not the military.

If you can't give him any credit for what he says, then don't reply to him at all. Simple as that. You guys are NOT the karaoke police, so stop trying to play Detective Wannabe here. For those of you who are perfect, then you can cast the first stone.
Agree. I could not have said it eloquently better myself. Kudos to you, Mr. Scott.

Well atleast we know your not a Rocket Scientist because we're still here! LOL Really the Japanese of that time mostly supported their Emperor who attacked us so I feel we were justified to end the war quick but nothing can justify dropping the bomb.
Just as since cottons has agreed that his count could very well be wrong, has said he needs to redo the library and has said he is not using this in his bar. He also states the $4500 was paid to the widow of his last KJ which implies his sympathy for a fallen KJ. So maybe this justifies not dropping any bombs on his bar! lol
Oh and I thought that was mrs cott! lol

I think there is a way to do it on the command line in DOS if you install the needed ZIP/UNZIP program in your DOS directory.
Basically all you have to do is install the program correctly so it works as a dos command and then type "unzip *.zip" which will unzip all of the zip files in the directory.
I looked into this to zip a batch of files, but I have not gotten around to doing it yet (my drive is not quite full yet).
As for getting a lot of CD from a dead KJ for a good price. Certainly possible but lucky. I bet my sister would sell off my 2k disks for $1k-2K or less because she has no idea what they are worth if she inherited them (if I died), I probalby have spent about $25k. Gotta be pretty lucky to find such a collection and poorly informed seller.

Depending on the operating system, you can get a reasonable count on the amount of files simply by clicking on properties on a folder, then add up the amounts from all the folders. Yep, that simple. It says how many files in the folder at the bottom of the details.
