Not the best drive around, Hitachi has a poor reliability rating, same as Seagate
I would look for deals on WD
I’ve been using external Maxtor One Touch for years & their dependability is superb. Seagate merged/acquired Maxtor 4 years ago. I’m surprised to hear that Seagate has a poor reliability rating. I was just about to buy a 2TB Seagate external for $99.
You said you were going to look for some deals on WD. So, I googled Seagate vs. Western Digital. You’re right. WD, has overall better reliability & efficiency reviews from consumers, and from the pro lab desk tests, WD scored more points than Seagate.

I use to buy only Seagate but that was before they purchased Maxtor, ever since, the company has been going down and they are probably the last brand to consider today mostly because of their poor reliability and non existing customer service, just check out their forum to see people complaining and not a single reply from them
Just stay away from their external usb drive, they have been having major issues with them, they make weird clicking sound and there`s nothing they can do to fix it
I've spoke to a Costco employee the other day and he said they have been having tons of return and he was about to remove them from the shelves!!
