My computer hard drive is dying and I just ordered a new computer. The new system will have Windows 7 and apparently my Microstudio 4.22 won't work right on the new OS.

Microstudio wants $30 to upgrade from 4.22 to 4.23 and that price is too high so...

I'm in the market for Win 7 compatible software that will allow me to make disk backups. How is CD+G ripper at duplicating disks? Is there something better?

oops apparently cd+g ripper doesn't make backups but power cd+g burner does. Has anyone tried it?

I've tried it once. I gotta get discs because I gotta burn 6 files I have for my disc collection of songs I bought off download so my books for hard drive can be used for disc if needed. It works good though.

You should be able to run Microstudio in XP mode and it will run fine. Mine does anyway - both MS & Hoster.

XP mode? Hmm... I guess I need to do some research. This will be my first experience with Windows 7. I had no idea that was possible. I'll give it a try when the new machine gets here.

Now, don't quote me on this one, cuz I am not totally positive. But, if I am right, Windows 7 Ultimate is the only one that has the XP emulator, none of the lower levels of Windows 7 have it,,, Am I correct or incorrect?

A quick look at The windows 7 website should clear things up.

Not exactly correct but close enough. XP emulator only works with Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate.

My new box will come with Home Premium. The upgrade to Professional is $90 at the Microsoft website and there's no guarantee that Microstudio will work in XP emulation mode anyway.

This is ticking me off. Apparently, some hardware might not work with Windows 7 without paying for an upgrade. I'm tempted to remove Windows 7 and install XP on the new machine.

You could have had a new HD put in your old machine for about 1/10 of what a new machine cost you and you could have put XP back on it.


Unless the Old machine was really slow there was no reason to get a new one. I've got an old HP that I bought back in 1999 and have put a new hard drive in it for less than $100 thus saving me about $500.\

Just sayin'. Keep the old machine put a new HD in it and use it for lots of other things like. Second ripping machine, doing other things while you are working on the main computer. heck you can even network them so you can do work on both computers from one, which is what I do a lot of the time.

Don't throw it out yet.

I have no idea, my first experience is with Windows 7 Pro, Microstudio & Hoster both work beautifully on both of my upgraded machines from Vista (which both worked too and this was Vista Home).

This machine is barely holding together. It's belching smoke, the rods are knocking and the upholstery is shot.

I think I'm going to set up the new machine with dual boot capability so I can choose between XP and Windows 7. Apparently, it's possible. I just have to do it.

I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 home premium on it. I use MTU Hoster and it runs flawless. To date I haven't had any program or hardware compatability issues. I thought about downgrading it to XP professional but why? XP is getting old and I am sure not too far in the future Microsoft
will quit supporting it with upgrades. I think you would be better off to keep and adapt to Windows 7 in my opinion.

Update:

I got my new Windows 7 64 bit machine and sure enough, Microstudio 4.22 wouldn't write to the cd drive. The drive would spin up but the write process would stop cold at that point. Interestingly, I installed all the Windows 7 updates and now Microstudio 4.22 is working fine.
