OK, just got my AKG WM40's back from warranty work (they couldn't find anything, another thread possibly). Got them on Thursday and was able to use them that night and again Saturday. OK, I had a group of ladies, one of which I simply adore, come and do a group song. Towards the end of the song, one of the gals, (I don't know this gal) starts smacking the microphone, and knocked the top half of the screen off. Yep she broke it. The screen falls on the floor, and she is YELLING into the mic.. I just turned off both mics as quickly as I could as soon as I noticed what had happened. I told her "you just broke my microphone".. She goes "so?",, and walks off.
Is it OK to beat someone just for being rude??? I mean, c'mon!!!! She broke it willfully!
Her friend (the one I adore) apologized for her and wouldn't let her come back up on stage anymore. Although, I wouldn't have let her if she had tried. I was able to put the mic back together and use it the rest of the night, but will have to glue the top half back on.
Please let me shoot her!!!! PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!

I'd get the person who broke the Mic's info from the one you adore and then sue the woman.

For the cost of a windscreen? Really?

Silly to sue.
Plot comical, practical joke revenge.
Anyone know where I can find and exploding microphone?
"Hi honey, glad you're back. I beefed up that mic so it won't break under your powerful grip again. Yeah, sorry 'bout that. Uh, would you try (song x) for me so I can check the repair job."
Wait for it.... BOOM!!

No, not gonna sue someone over a windscreen. That is dumb. But the callousness of her when I told her she broke my mic,, grrrrr. I don't believe in hitting a lady, but she was no lady,, she was being a real snotty witch,, but I pronounce that a bit differently. So, can I still shoot her?? no permission yet? daggnabbit!!! HAHA
I can replace the windscreen easy enough, or might just be able to glue the original back together. She smacked it pretty hard only a couple of times, and popped the top half off, I turned my head when I heard the banging, and then saw the screen rolling across the floor. It all happened in about 2 seconds. And that was all the time it took for me to turn off the mics when she started screeching into the mic. Absolutely no etiquette at all from this "chic". Some people's kids!!!

The first thing that comes to mind is, how cheap is that windscreen that somebody smacking it with their hand makes it come apart?
I get people smacking mics all the time.. i'll even say over the mic, "Hey looks like we got another drummer in the house!"
As to the woman being a (@$%!).. well.. I run into that from time to time.. usually from men, but the occasional woman, too.
Kind of goes with the job.. and the reason I don't offer high end wireless mics.
I used to keep this old goofy superscope 'Bob Barker' style microphone on hand to give to singers who abused the regular mics. I scored it from a flea market for like $5 and bought it just because it looked crazy.
Whenever a 'mic abuser' would come up to sing, that's the mic they'd get and i'd tell 'em, "Since you don't know how to sing into a regular mic, I got you this special one!"
Lovingly referred to as the 'Beep Beep' microphone.. like the sound the short bus makes. Beep Beep.
That mic sounded like you were talking into a tin can.. but it backfired on me, since people saw that mic and said, "Hey! I wanna use that Bob Barker microphone!"
Had a guy at a show offer me $200 for it one night, and I sold it on the spot.. and ended up replacing it with an old AKG mic that i'd hand out to the screamers, droppers, and swingers.. until I finally replaced singers mics with the DKW Duo's.

Mr. Scott you have my permission...BLAST the beeotch! kidding.
NOT to change the subject (much) but are these AKG Duos equal or near the quality of the shure sm 58 wireless?
Last night i used my pgx2 sm58 wireless for the !ST TIME and by the 8th singer the freakin PLASTIC battery cap broke into 8 small pieces! i am rather peeved right now.
GREAT mic that sounds incredibly clear but now the bottom end won't stay on. I hate to have to use duct tape and have been scouring the net for replacement parts (battery compartment cover) to no avail.
If the AKGs are a solid investment that are built solid then i'd consider them.
Which begs the question...WHY were yours repaired in the 1st place?

I suppose i shall order the shure replacement bottom for the sm58...
You can STILL shoot her if you like mr scott!

Ooh, Mr. Scott. Don’t you know that violence begets violence? I believe it was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who sez: “We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love”. (or was it Luther Vandross?)
However, after reading the rest of your post on what she did to your mic - justification now exists. Being the heart & soul of a karaoke show microphones are considered sacred. No vocals, no show. Therefore, I say: “Permission granted. Go ahead and shoot the b#&*h.” (Disclaimer: I'm just kidding).

Sure just be sure Timberlea is the one investigating the shooting. With his insider knowledge of our plight I'm sure he could help you find cause to make it a justifiable homicide.

No need for killing. Just shoot off the offending hand (or hands), and she'll forevermore have to sing with the mic in a mic stand. Yeah, that's the ticket!

She gets the corded PG 58 from now on. If she breaks it she breaks it, but she probably won't.

I have had people look at me with an incredible look on their face when I ask them to not damage my equipment, like it's their RIGHT to do so!
PS: I'll pay for the bullets!
