UH they are like any other store and will replace 1 for 1.
I don't know anyone who will just send you something just because you said it was bad you need to return the bad disc to get a new one

I know their replacement policy but I had a Christmas show coming up and wanted that disc in my song book. The point I'm making is that I called CB and explained the situation, followed their instructions and emailed them my receipt. That receipt and my statement should be sufficient to replace the CD. They backed out when they found that I paid below their retail price. Second point these companies bread and butter consumer is the KJ. Most businessmen that I know work hard to keep their customers happy rather than putting up road blocks to business. There is an entire forum here dedicated to trying to figure out the latest legality on transferring discs to computers. The music industry needs to embrace modern technology and use it rather than fighting it tooth and nail.

CB does have a custom site.

Their replacement policy has always been send the original & they'll replace it. SC is the same policy - except theirs is provided it's still in production. At least they do offer the guarantee's. Not many manus do that at all.


I am LOman on this one, if the disc is bad they will replace it once they have the original.

We (the KJ) are not there bread and butter, they have a huge (out of country) retail market that is paying the bills for them. We are only a small part of their overall business.

Since i am local, it has been easy for me to just drive over to their office and replace bad discs but never just handed me a new disc without giving them the bad disc.

Many moons ago when I jump into the karaoke bandwagon, I started buying my first karaoke disc format, Pioneer Video Laser Discs @ $150 a pop for 24 songs. (I said many moons ago :lol: )

My first paying gig I had 85 laser discs, a little over 2k songs. Then DKK introduced their 99 discs in the market. I bought them too. Comes the VCD’s, Music Maestros, SChoice, Minus-One (now Pocketsongs) Legends, etc, etc. I get hold of anything & practically buy everything as soon as they’re released. I probably have all SC discs released & got pulled out due to licensing restrictions.

Anyway, to date I have 2,253 cdgs (lasers & vcds excluded) my book lists 25k songs. I’m currently in the process of eliminating/de-duping my book & I think it will be 18k or 20k if that. Nowadays I only do customs & buy 3 brands: CBusters & PocketSongs every month, PopHits on yearly subscription.

50,000 songs? Maybe. But who would want Nikkodo, Backstage, Sound Images, Sweet Georgia Brown, Lost Classics, Music Maestro’s, Asian vcds & mega-dupes in their collection?

Actually this may have been the case 10 years ago - kj's did provide their main source for many years, but now the home consumer market has taken over. Which is partly why much of the download sites that are available are for private home consumers only and not commercial kj's. Yes there were discussions on various different forums from the manus themselves, but I don't have time to research all of their archives to link to right now.

Ah, all of these manus do have their diamond in the rough's but I wouldn't want to base my library around them as a core.

I've been collecting CDG's for over a decade.. buying discs I find at pawn shops, garage sales, KJ's going out of business.. wherever I could find 'em.

In fact, when I was first starting out building my catalog, i'd buy whatever I ran across.. especially if it was cheap.

I still don't have anywhere near 50,000 songs.. hell, I don't have half that.. even counting the dupes.

What counts, and what I stress to potential clients (club owners/managers) is not the total number of songs in the catalog, but what songs you have.

Saying you have 50,000 karaoke songs may sound impressive, but when you consider that means you've got 10,000 dupes, including 14 versions of one song.. many from the same manu, just on different discs.. it's not that impressive.

Then when you consider close to half the songs are 'standards' like 'Happy Birthday' in 12 different languages, and large collections of 'Greek Favorites' or 'Tibetan Abortion Clinic Chants'.. well.. who cares.

I've heard from various sources that there are somewhere between 40,000 and 75,000 English language karaoke tracks out there, from various manus.

I guarantee I could boil my collection down to about 2,500 unique songs and never have to tell a patron, "Sorry.. I don't have your song."

Exactly, a 50K or more 'advertised' library is for kj's that really don't have anything else to offer 9 out of 10 times. I have had singers come in saying they have been to these shows and don't have nearly as many songs they want to sing as they find at our shows.
Big libraries (from the hard drive sources) are pretty much a joke, one short point in time it was a selling point, but I think the customers have wised up and know that it doesn't matter and don't want to see duplicated songs listed (I counted in one book where they actually listed 22 versions of Friends In Low Places - and that's if they even offer books at all), it's what the singer wants to sing is the important factor. I have a meager 12K song library (un-dup'd) compared to many that have been in business as long as I have, but I quit buying a long time ago just to have, get what they want.
