I’m trying to figure out a way to get my karaoke set up working. I originally had a cavs dvd/karaoke player hooked up to a HK receiver. I also had an external hard drive with all my songs in cdg format hooked up to the Cavs player.

Well the Cavs player broke and it was only about 2 years old. So what I am hoping to do is somehow avoid purchasing another cavs player and just hook up the hard drive to receiver? is that possible?

I also have an older laptop but it doesn’t have any connections for audio except for a headphone jack.

Any suggestions?

How many usb ports does it have? if it has two then you can run the hard drive out of one usb port and a usb sound card out of the other. Another solution is a usb hub if you only have one port. Of course you can run the sound out of the onboard audio jack as well but it might not sound as good as the audio coming out of the usb sound card. You'll have to purchase the software player from cavs to play the files as I am assuming they are in CAVS format and not the standard MP3+G format.
