OK, I'm close to subbing....however, I need to know which is bigger, a KB or a MB? My test sub is like 21 KB. Do I have to compress that to make it into 3 MB?

K-Meister, I hope you're working on that reference thingie cuz people like me need it!!

The reference thing a while out (probably 6 weeks). We're about to shut down 3-4 hotels+3-4restaruants at the end of the season and I'll be working 100 hour weeks for a short while and then I have to move 400 miles because of this new job. After that, whew... and I take a nap, I'll get started on the reference information. Don't know if I'll just make it a document to send or a web page but I'll get something together!

BTW, KB is smaller. It stands for kilo-bytes which is 1024 bytes, unles you're in marketing in which case it's 1000bytes  . Mega-bytes is even bigger at 1,048,576 but again marketing people insist it's only 1,000,000 bytes.

BTW, if your sub is only 21K you might have a problem unless it's REAL short. Are you sure it's an MP3? Have you listened to it yet?

You're right...it wasn't in mp3 format. I'll have to figure out how to get it to that. Why is is this so freaking complicated? Geez.

No pressure with the reference thing...long as I can keep asking you and Snoop Dog about stuff.

To rip a song into MP3 format--all you have to do is look up MP3 ripper on the internet and DL an MP3 Ripper program. Then with that you just selct the songs you want to convert and it will convert them from WMA format to MP3 format. Its a very straightforward process. The just upload your MP3 song to the showcase.

Kurt, I'm doing that already with Audacity...I'm importing them from Audio Mp3 Editor (cuz my Audacity recordings sound terrible and A M E sound good); but thank you.

So I went and looked at my test sub, and I got it into an mp3 format. It's 3.06mb. How do you guys reduce them down to 3mb? Cut empty spots out of the tracks, like the beginning and end?

K-Meister you are so sweet and helpful, I wish I could see a picture of you!

I know this sounds complicated but (in case anyone wonders) the reason I'm going back and forth from A M E to Audacity is cuz like I said, for whatever reason, if I record in Audacity the sound is terrible.

Yet I can't adjust timing of vocal and music together in A M E (I think cuz you have to buy it to get it to do more than record and it's $40 and I'm po') so I pull the tracks into Audacity (which I'm loving now cuzza the editing and it's free), edit and mix and pretty up those suckers, and there ya have it.

Another thing I discovered is that everytime I open up a vocal or music track in order to change it somehow, I have to open up the raw data file, not the mp3 one. Then when done, I have to export it out as a mp3 into A M E...phewwww.

Great...I was just beginning to get ready to record my first sub. Now Audio Mp3 Editor has decided they've let me use them free enough. I can record, but they won't let me save a file anymore (to export it to Audacity for editing and mixing). I was all excited and now I'm all ferrrstrated again. Guess I'm gonna have to shell out some dough.

Use Mpeg suite

It will let you reduce the sampling rate on the mp3. I usually drop them until they just fit under the 3MB limit (or you can upgrade your subscription on the SS to allow larger songs). I also clip any dead space at the beginning and/or end to keep the file size as small as possible.

IIRC, this application might require the .NET framework from Microsoft. If it does it will prompt you to download and open the appropriate web page. BTW, as a general rule, try not to drop below 96kbps (this setting will make more sense once you install the applicaiton). To trim the amount you need you shoudl be able to reencode at 112kbps (assuming you were in 128).

If none of this makes sense, I'll try to post later and explain.... I know the teminology can get confusing, but bear with us... we'll try to get you submitting in no time!

one thing I use is goldwave. It's free, and when you save a file, you can save it in multiple formats... and different frequencies... so you can take a 6MB mp3 and make it into a 2MB one by merely selecting a smaller frequency! Don't save the original... save it as a nother name (put a 1 on the end of it or something!)...

It's what I've done!

Excuse me, but that is just too sexy of a pic to be posting in here! Just because you're a Backstreet Boy doesn't give you the right to show off like that.

LMAO over here
