Why not? $30 seems like a reasonable enough one time fee to pay for something that I can easily update to make my song book available. Even if I just used it for myself it could save me $$$ in avoiding duplicate song purchases.
I live in an area where android phones are more popular than the IPhone & Blackberry's so a Droid app would be more beneficial than one of the other platforms.

Well, speaking only from my perspective. I don't want anything to distract folks from the party and I don't want them sober enough to use such a little device. I already have electronic search-able data bases (kiosks) and no one needs to burn airtime to use them. If they want to play with their cell phones they don't need to come to a bar to do it.

Really it's just a marketing tool,
Your song list is on the phone so it only downloads a new list when you tell it the list has been updated, otherwise it get a very small file on start up to check if a updated song list is ready. Right now it automatically downloads the update, I may ask if they want to first.
The only other data usage is when the user goes to the Current Events Page where it will download up to 4 labels worth of Text, with your upcoming events or whatever you want to say to your fans. That's about whats in this post so far.
The list of songs is just a Hook, plus it may save some time as they may know before hand what songs they what to sing.
I thought of putting in some Ad's from AdMob but rejected that idea as this app should be about you. But I may have to, to make $30 work, $40 with no Ad's.
Right now I still need to cut about 1 more hour off of the setup time (my work) to make the $30 price point. But I think I'm going to make it, around the first of April
I'm getting close to the point I shouldn't cross on this Forum, I'll have to see what a Ad costs.

Seriously farmer, the font on an android sideways is going to be bigger than in a book and what's the diff if they are looking in this or a book? Does the book take away from the party? My job is as a change agent and I will give anything a chance at least once before I destroy it verbally!

I wish it could be on Apple and the Berry too, to the cost and time of development limit it to android right now, That's one of the reasons I got the price so low. If you wrote your own app it would cost you $25 to put it onto Googles market.
Like I said, it's a marketing tool, just like flyers, song books and word of month. It puts your name onto the android market place and it's a Free App for your user.

reasonable e-mail support, I'm a one man operation
Once it's set up it's just adding new songs to the list and keeping up with events.
I'm rewriting the song list now, just a minor thingy, some song list have the same song on three or four disc's so they have the same song 4 times with different index numbers and I only what one entry for the song and when it's clicked on it will show the 4 index numbers.
I'm shooting for the end of the month to begin marketing, and yes I sent a request here about doing an ad but I'm on a tight budget. The App will be ready tomorrow but I have to finish the web site.

I don't have an android. You may well be right about the font size. Would someone who does have such a beast please get good and hammered to see if they can still use the application? When I thought of building such an app. I ruled it out because the people who come to a bar to drink would not want to play with their phones but rather interact with real human beings, in person no less. This may be the wave of the future but I don't think so. That's all I'm saying.

I was quizzing some customers tonight, and no one had an Android. But they all had web active phones. Make it work for all web phones & i'll pay for it for a shot!

I see people on their phones texting all night long amongst the people they are sitting with - sometimes even to the same people at the same table, so I do not see any further distraction with them looking up a song on their phone.

Yeah but Lonnie, you have to remember that you don't have a karaoke show, you have The karaoke show. Who else in the world has been at the same bar all those nights a week for twenty years? Your experience is going to be different from most of us. Isn't the whole purpose of having karaoke in a bar to sell more drinks and thus make more profit? Next time you see someone texting the night away, count their drinks.

Most of them drink like a fish - absolutely no lack in that area while texting! Although I do know one table that the tab is consistantly over $200 everytime they come in, however it's usually 1 guy paying since he likes to flash his cash and keeps the rounds of Jagerbombs flowing for the table. I saw a $500 tab for their group 1 night.

I don't need to get good and hammered to tell you how simple it is. No little bitty links to click on. Everything is good sized and easy to read and click on. Bigger than most any app I've seen and I have hundreds on my phone.
If the OP could put a little video of it on youtube, anyone and everyone will see how simple it is to operate. I just hope it's as easy to update. In my area, its' about half android and half apple with a few blackberrys. But that is just from my viewpoint which isn't a big enough sample size of course to say that's a solid guess.
Personally, I don't know why anyone would want an iPhone over a droid. Droid does everything the iPhone does plus it has Swype and automatically uploads any new contacts you add to your online account. iPhone has neither and the screen size is a little smaller on the iPhone (compared it to my bro in laws in Canada this past weekend) and the iPhone is thicker. But that's just me. And the conversation/debate should be saved for another thread in the lounge I suppose.
I agree with Lonnie 100%. If this could be put on all apps markets, this would be a huge gizmo for karaoke, and I mean gizmo in a good way, very handy. No need to have 10 or more songbooks if you have this. 4 or 5 books would be more than enough I would think. No more waiting for a book to become available.

Okay, I'm becoming convinced. But I just had my first beer and my typing skills are going to sh*t. Am I the only one who suffers from this correlation?

, no mine do that and it's frustrating.
But no typing on this app, click artist or song and then grab the half thumbnail sized scroll bar on the right to scroll down through the two alphabetically sorted lists.
Find an artist you like, click on it and a sub list shows up with all that artists songs listed, again alphabetically.

And of course it has the search function. But as fast as the scroll bar is, I see the search function being there, but not being used much.
I'm ready to try this out.
