Rip, have you considered making or having made a rolling cart to your exact specs and needs?

Make it from thinwall aluminum tubing and it will be lightweight strong and funtion exactly like you want it too. If you have access to a heliarc welder would be great but for welding aluminum in most cases I find that the little wire feed mig units do just fine.

Yep, have considered and leaning that way with the stuff I pictured above. All you need to put it together is a couple wrenches, preferably ratchet. This stuff is pretty lightweight, not as light as aluminum but I've seen it in use, can hold a lot of weight. With the design I have in mind, I can rout a hole in the bottom of my skb, a hole in the pressed wood I will have at the top of the cart/table, and store my cables/cords below. It should still be light enough to carry up steps if needed.

Still waiting to hear how some of you get your full sized rack/boxes up and down the stairs?

kinda cool. just a thought, maybe "L" stock aluminum? still strong, but lighter than steel (easier on the back) might be cool.
also, i use this http://www.odysseygear.com/odyssey-prod ... Table.html

not what you are looking for, but i have drawers in it for my lappy, mics, other misc accessories (batteries, slips etc.) and the books sit at the bottom like in a bookshelf. everything but the Bose fits in there for transport and easy setup. you have a lot of space under yours as well. you could make spaces for everything and have an all in 1 transport.

I've seen these before, I always liked them but I don't need the side table, could maybe put the songbooks there. I always wondered, how do you move these along stairs?

the side table is actually the front cover. don't need it, don't attach it to the side. i use it to put the top cover on to hold my lappy. i work with my wife so having it next to the board instead of on top makes it so we can both work at the same time. never had to move over stairs, they dont like stairs too much in AZ.

I can see where that would be very handy in a 2 person operation. Very nice set up. Unfortunately in Iowa, lots of stairs! Gig I had last night has a 12" curb! Plus 4 stairs to the door which swung out and the entrance is only about 28" wide. Hard to get everything up there and keep the door open. This was my third time there so I have it down now, but back still feels it.
Won't be in Iowa but another year or son, then Toronto, I'm think a few stairs there too. Been there many times. I'm just talking 3, 4, 5 or 6 stairs. Not like going upstairs. Only had to do that once. My first ever gig. Last one too thank God!

Stairs I deal with one of two ways

An extra charge of $10 per step for anything over two (and I take someone along to carry everything up the stairs) the other option is a Fender Passport 150 or 250, a laptop and the wireless mic box for the same cost as a regular system gig.

How about something like this?
Image
There are different versions of the Rock N Roll Multi-cart with different wheels and some with and without the additional adjustable shelves or the adjustable shelves can be bought to add if the one purchased doesn't have it already.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Carts---Dollies-Stage---Roadie-Supplies,New-Gear.gc

Use it to haul your gear in and out and use it as a work surface during the gig!

As far as lighting your board why not get a battery operated LED light to mount on your laptop shelf?

Thanks for the responses. I bought the materials to make my own cart/table. I'm very excited about it. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Not only can I make it specifically to the dimensions I want, if it doesn't work, I can remake it. Flex Craft is like legos. You can tear it down and rebuild it, or modify it.

I will make a shelf on the bottom (with holes to the floor of course) and will store my cables there. It's very lightweight and the cost is pretty cheap considering it should last forever as long as I have it. It will be right sized and I don't know what else I could ask it to do at this point. Should have it by Wednesday, have it built and skirted by Thursday in time for my Friday wedding. I've modified the case already, hole in the bottom and a half hole in the inner back so I can plug my mixer in.

The only thing that is bugging me is why didn't anyone on the forum ever tell me about the rack shelf. It was nearly a perfect fit, I'll add some pics when I get done mounting everything.

Oh and the light, think I will just get another snake usb light or use the one I have, I can crank it down below the laptop shelf to the mixer when I need it, don't need much.
