My friend Tal has been working on one for over a year, visiting other clubs, interviewing KJ's, singers, and even the CEO's of karaoke disc makers.

He's got 1000's of hours of footage, and plans to start editing this summer.

One thing we'd really like to get... We'd like to talk to a pirate. Anonymously. We'll disguise your voice and let you sit behind a silhouette screen if you want. It's not going to be the Spanish inquisition.

He's not here to judge, just document. If you're not a pirate, that's cool too. He lives in San Jose, and commutes down to Cambria once a week. If you live along that route, PM me some contact info, and I'll him in touch with you (Again, pirate or not).

He's also going to be visiting some east coast locations too (NC and TN) So there's a chance he can be in your area.

Plan is to submit the documentary to film festivals starting in the fall in time for the winter film festivals.

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about?

My suggestion - if you really want this documentary to have some worthwhile information in it - is to use a someone whose had plenty of experience in the piracy biz.... someone who has been there and really knows what it's like to make a ton of money off using someone else's material without permission... for years and years.

But, I don't know if any manufacturer would make themselves available for any of your filming even though he appears to be going in their neighborhood(s)....
