Thought i'd see who here has that feature and who uses it.. and who doesn't.. and why.

I use it often, especially since I cannot remember everyone from night to night to remember what they sang, or they ask for a song they did that they cannot remember the title to - or to call them on a 'this is a suicide' comment lol.
Mainly I use it for someone that asks me to pick something for them when they cannot decide on something, I will look at their history & pick something they have not sang for a couple months (not weeks). I only started keeping track since Aug last year so I don't have a huge database yet, but some people do have a little over 100 different songs stored under their name so far. Plus like stated I can get an at a glance look at their genre prference if they want me to pick a suicide for them, I can give them something in the general ballpark.
I also find that singers do tend to NOT pick the same songs night after night or week after week, although there are always some that only have their handful that will sing those and nothing else. Most will pick different songs knowing that they tend to sing the same song repeatidly - when they come up to ask for their list, i'll pull it up & they'll see they either have or haven't sung a song there before & put it up or sing a different song.

Kjams does that. The program has a learning curve though - it's Mac, so it's so easy it's frustrating sometimes. The cool thing about it is it keeps a running history of all of the songs one singer has ever sang. On top of that, it remembers any key changes that are involved.

Even people who have only been in once or twice, I can look like a superhero when they request a song and my response is, "Down 2, right?"

It's not a function I use every night, but it does come in handy every now and then.

Hoster remembers all key changes as well. This is a nice feature.

When my husband was running he started to keep track of who sang what and what manu. There were several that when they got a little tipsy would start to try to argue that it was the wrong version till he did that. Also after he did that everyone started looking for new songs to add cause most did not realize that they were only singing the same few over and over.

good point. i did not think about them coming to look at their history and remarking "thats all i have?" it happens quite a bit, i just did not put 2 and 2 together.

I'm with you. Being disc based, I use "Cranial Firmware" to store singers' songs. If a regular disappears for awhile, I might need a reminder, but otherwise I'm good with those who have a regular repertoire. No files needed.

I like it for the fact that if a regular does 'disappear', I can look back on when they came in to sing last & maybe shoot a personal email (I have most of our singer contacts in some fashion) their way if it's been a couple months to update them on new happenings or just to give them a quick invite to come in for a night or something.

Seems like all I have to do is mention the name of someone who hasn't been around for awhile in conversation with someone else, and they'll walk through the door ten minutes later.

Yeah it's funny when that happens.

I use MTU hoster as Lonman says it remembers the song , the actual version (if you have a few versions of the same song) and the key they sang it in. When i enter there name i also add venue as a mobile KJ i find this useful as i can have several people named the same but who are regulars at different venues. I have one singer with 178 songs to her name she lets me pick them from her list to place in the rotation to suit the mood and atmosphere of the night, works really well for me.

It's a great feature. Period! I have yet to hear someone say " I have this history thing and I hate it". I even use it for myself, I remember going to shows with a few songs in mind, couldn't remember them (yes even sober) so I brought my own list hand written.
I've had a few more singers use it since I posted. 2 of them came up and said, just pick a few from my history.

As far as singers singing the same song every week, yeah so? They probably drink the same drink, hang out with the same friends. They are comfortable with those songs, spend money, keep you in a job. The way I see it, if you don't like it, get out of the biz! I'd like to see them try something different too but they probably wish I didn't pick my nose either!

Singing the same songs week after week, I say so what either -it's their 5 minutes on stage, however the ones that do sing more than one song you can pick from something in their history to do something they didn't sing last week.

Oh I'm with you on the E-mails, Lon. I have and use them, as well as texting ( with permission) wayward singers... 8)

What about those that are sitting at a table maybe 5 feet from the host and TEXT THEIR REQUEST!!!! I actually had that happen last Friday. Although I believe it was more a joke and we did laugh about it after the show, I replied back, anyone that texts me a request needs to buy me a drink! They did.

Most egregious repeaters are the folks who bring their own disks in.

I love having someone's history. It's not uncommon for someone to ask me to simply pick something from their history. I generally do it with the real regulars when I see them come in and it's slow. I get to pick the song they 1)sing pretty well and 2) the crowd will likely dig. I'd love to keep singer's notes in the history to enable me to remember how the performance went. More information is nearly always better.

A person picking a song out of their history is generally better than the guy who brings in his own disk and sings "Weekend in New England" for the 7th time that month (true story).

I actually encourage people to do that. Especially if it's music that I do not need.

Glad I don't get that guy. All of the singers that bring in their own discs at our shows are usually some pretty obscure songs or stuff that can't be bought by most hosts.

I actually LOVE when they do. Being disc based, this is actually less work for me. Even better, at the end of the night, if I have- let's say 3 singers who do this- I can start packing earlier for a fast exit.

Won't work for me- though it's a quick alternative. I turn my phone off during shows to prevent those static bursts caused by them.

Me too, but this is also why I'm glad to be able to play them. Most of my PC based competition can't, and it gives me drawing power.

Oh me too, that's probably why I get as many customers as I do that bring in their own is because the competition can't/won't! Some nights i'll have as many as 10 customer discs. Even get 1 that still brings in his own laser discs. But then I also advertise the fact that I have the ability.
