Well, had a disaster sat night....we run our system via computer. AND we didnt take back up with us. Computer crashed (hard drive failed) and no way to pull up karaoke. Luckily we had plenty of music to run, from ipods! The crowed was, surprisingly, very accommodating. I was playing some music while trying to reboot/fix when I started getting yells to turn it up. I looked up and the dance floor was packed . The owner told me to forget the karaoke tonight...keep them dancing! So we did. 5 hours mind you of non-stop dancing . We broke the record in his alcohol sales and got invited back. ( and i thought for sure that wouldnt happen). Just sharing in case anyone else had their stories to add. Bad night turned good

Bad night turned good Once you get them in there, there's a lot of things you can do. But getting them in there, that's the problem. If advertising "DJ" would do that, then we'd be seeing a whole lot of DJ signs.

We do that with a back up of karaoke discs on premises, and still keep them dancing.....

I use a 40gb iPod to play my 'voiceover music' and fill music between singers, but do all my DJ from the same laptop I use for karaoke.
There have been a few times when having the iPod loaded with music has saved my @ss when i've had computer issues.. although, knock on wood, since buying the new laptop I haven't had to use it.
I've been kicking around the idea of carrying a clone of my primary system drive, so in the event the drive in the laptop were to croak, I could be back up and running in literally 5 seconds by sliding out the 'bad' drive, popping in the clone drive, and sliding it back in and booting.

While I have to say that backup/redundacy is a MUST to carry, and you should have, I'm glad as heck that you were still able to pull off a great night for the venue. Skills are equally important as equipment, and you showed 'em what you had. Good job!

Bad night turned good Hilarious! My software took a dump 3 times Friday,, back up in less than 2 minutes but to me, unacceptable. New laptop!

I have my drive cloned. Even named the same so if the first goes bad, compuhost recoginzes the back up. Going to try using my internal drive with my new laptop this week.

Now that's what I call falling in the proverbial bucket and coming out smelling like a rose.

Actually ordered an additional external hard drive last night. I'm going to clone the original drive, purchasing a new macbook pro this weekend and then installing my program on an old laptop as well. This way I will have two laptops, and two hard drives. Carry both with me at all times. ugh, i need more gigs to pay this off
