This dumbfounds me. You put a disk in the drive and click and it plays...Please explain how to unzip it. I have seen this discussed some, but I still scratching my noggin on this one....

Also....can you do this with a regular cd as well or only cdg?

I am guessing that you read this from one of the CEP threads. The straight answer is, you can not!. How ever what they mean is that, many people have their karaoke songs stored on their hard drives in .zip formats to save space. When you upzip them you get 2 files: 1.mp3 file(or .wav) and one .cdg file(stores the cdg text). And then in case you do not have a karaoke machine, you can play the .cdg file in a cdg playing program while the mp3 is playing and recording in CEP or any other karaoke type program. In order to get the 2 files from a karaoke CD then you need to read them in with a program. I personally use Easy CD ripper to get the mp3 file and then use Audiograbber to extract the .CDG file from the karaoke CD. Everyone does this differently. There are many other programs you can do this with like CDRwin etc.

You can do all of this IF you have a computer CD-rom/writer etc IF it supports cdg format, otherwise you cant extract the .cdg file and only the mp3 file. CD-rom brands that support this are: Plextor cd-roms and a few others.

Ok I will try and explain to my best ability. This is just one way of doing it, you can do it with many other programs too.

Go to: http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net
1: Download the freeware program called Audiograbber.
2: Install it.
3: Put a karaoke disc in your plextor drive
4: Select which track you want extracted from your karaoke CD.
5: Under the tab CD>GRAB CDG TRACKS>Grab to .CDG.
it will save the .cdg text file down to your hard drive.
6: Rip the mp3 out of the karaoke cd. There are millions of mp3 rippers you can download.
7: You will now have 2 files. 1 .cdg file and 1 mp3 file.
8: If you want to store them more easily and save some space. Go to www.download.com and search for winzip. You can zip the 2 files together into one with this and it will also compress the size of them for easy storage.. If you 3 weeks later want to use this, just unzip the .zip file.
9: You can now easily send this .zip file thru email to your husband 2 rooms away(I do not want to encourage anything illegal) hehe! I hope this helps!

I use a program called Editcdg! I got it from www.editcdg.com and it is freeware. Google search on it too. It is just a little simple little freeware programs that displays the cdg text, but it works great.

cereal, why are you using a different program to grab the mp3's? Why don't you just use audiograbber to do both? If it's a quality issue and you want better than 56k you can just download the LAME codec for free, the link is on audiograbber's web site, and then encode all the way up to 320k. Thought I would help out if you didn't know about that.

pkircher! Yeah that was exactly the issue, I do not want 56k quality audio. I also know that I can fix it with installing lame extension for audiograbber, I tried to do it but I didnt manage to get it to work so I just rip the mp3s with a different program, really not too time consuming. But you are absolutely right. You can do both the cdg and mp3 with audiograbber.
