This is the one I have - Logitech Wireless Trackball M570. I have a horrible problem with wireless but this one is standing up to the test. No cords to trip on and it's a trackball with a scroll thing too. From what I understand they have several different versions even one with the trackball in the middle if you want it that way.

I use a SKB Mini Gig Rig with gig wing. My notebook and mouse pad fit right on the gig wing.

I have the same rack as ripman8, but I've not opted for the AV8 shelf yet. I've been hoping they'd come up with something similar to that gig wing but for the SKBR104/SKB6106 racks.

The best mouse I have ever used, and still using, is this Bluetooth mouse from Logitech. Don't remember the model name but model number is M-RBB93. Probably don't make them anymore. I like it because it's a bit smaller than a full mouse but feels right in the hand. Also, since my laptop has built in Bluetooth, one less USB port used up by a dongle. Lastly, I have been using this mouse 3-4 times a week with my laptop and sometimes I even forget to turn it off. In last two years, I changed the batteries once. That's right ONCE. The battery lasts forever!

I love this mouse.

Some interesting stories. I used a trackball once about 10 or 11 years ago. It wasn't bad, I got used to it. It was expensive back then, when it went back I didn't want to spend the money so I went back to traditional mouse.
I've already purchased a mini laser mouse. I purchased a mouse platform on ebay made by kelly. Came in today. If you have the same laptop shelf I have, don't buy this platform. It doesn't fit between the hinges. I haven't come up with a way to make it work will, I will but just haven't yet.
I'm not going to buy a gigrig, happy with what I have and just bought it anyway.

I like hitting thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.. good place to get crazy retro shirts for shows.. especially wild Hawaiian or Bowling shirts.. anyway.. I like to breeze by the electronics section and laser trackballs and optical mice are pretty common for a buck or two a piece.

It's also where I scored my black 17" Dell LCD that I use for a lyrics screen for $5.. they sold it cheap because they didn't have a 'mickey mouse' power cord to test it.

Speaking of power cords.. it's also a great place to pick those up, too.

In fact, just today I picked up a VGA to Composite and SVIDEO adapter made by InFocus for $5 that included a 20' SVIDEO cable and a 20' RCA to RCA cable that i'm looking forward to adding to my production rig soon.

I have one gig that likes me to run into their ancient projection TV for lyrics, but I haven't been able to do so since I replaced my laptop and the new Dell didn't have an SVIDEO out.

Anyway.. slight rambling thread hijack I guess.. but keep an eye out at thrift stores for USB optical mice. You can get name brands (Logitech, Microsoft) for like a buck or two a piece. Toss 'em in a box and you've got one handy if you or a pal happens to need one in the future.

Ok, this is why I am in continuous improvement! Sometimes accidents (like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) just work!

I took my laptop shelf out, installed it backwards, screwed the mouse platform on the front right side of the shelf, turned the platform to the side 90 degrees, placed just a small piece of Velcro on the backside of the mouse (so it wouldn't slide forward) moved my click and stick lights (both of them) to the "new" front bottom side of the laptop shelf, and wow! I'm very happy with the set up. The shelf has no lip on the front now to keep the laptop from sliding off but I use 4 small gatorade caps to not only keep it from sliding, but get it up off the shelf to help keep it cooler. I disabled the touchpad on the laptop, the mouse is so much easier to run compuhost on! I can do everything with one hand now except type (yes I know I could but I actually know how to type) and now I can set the laptop shelf back to totally expose my mixer, or move it forward to type. Or in between and it stays in place. So nice to have and use a mouse after over 2 years of using the touchpad. Not having the touchpad abled is nice, no more accidently hitting buttons I don't want to hit. I did have to give up my small microphone holder and I just lay that wireless down on the unused front portion of my mixer rack shelf. Was able to still leave the other holder in the back portion.
The big thing I gave up (not big to me as I wasn't using it anyway) is the SKB topper. I'll have to transport the rack without the lid. I'm ok with that, get a little rain, I'll throw a plastic bag over it.

I'll post some pics Friday night.

You can get a decent Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo for $20. Optical mouse, just rub it on your pants leg (or favourite customer)

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about?

Sorry Hiteck. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow night. I've been sick. It turned out very good. The only thing I have changed since my post above is to replace the gatorade lids with velecroed 1" painted black wood blocks. Keeps the laptop from sliding and helps keep the laptop cool. Had to get used to the change, did a gig sat night and while adding transition music in Compuhost, I accidentally hit the clear button instead of add and deleted everything I had added. But able to add and change music quicker with the mouse.

Please help de-confuse this Luddite!

I don't use a PC in the show, but I'm still confused. What is the advantage of a mouse over a finger pad for this application?

Perhaps no advantage, just preference. I personally don't like the touch pad, not enough positive knowledge where the cursor will be no matter how good you get with it. I use my laptop all the time, use the track pad all the time at the office but when it comes to the show I prefer a good old fashioned mouse.

Might simply be my gaming background that has me tied to a good mouse at home. I just have more control with that device.

Your mileage may vary :)

Interesting, I've been to Goodwill for halloween and other occasions, have to check that out. I could use some mickey mouse cables!

Sorry, forgot I was discussing this on two different threads. I don't like the touch pad on laptops. Too sensitive, can't move as fast and too easy to click on things you shouldn't be clicking on. I had the trackball once, I liked it but for me still faster to use the mouse. My new mouse is between a full sized mouse and a mini mouse. I loved it as soon as I started using it in my new set up. With the mouse platform, my footprint is still 3' by 2' and very handy. Did another gig Friday, the mouse helps me speed up when I have multiple requests coming in at the same time. I believe there is a better way in all that I do but I'm very happy with this for now!

Crybaby - that picture attachment doesn't look like a mouse. After checking out your avatar (2 beautiful chicks making out) got me wondering what you say about "it has a dual purpose". LMAO
