i can honestly say that i have never knowingly skipped any request ever in a rotation, may have made a mistake in the old days before my software system. BUT i still get people wanting to get up next or bump the rotation i say NO . But i have never intentionally missed someone out because they were not a regular ...that's just stupid in my book.
I was a karaoke singer before i was a host and i remember what it was like and what i didnt like at shows i went to , so i keep it fair and consistent.

I deliberately skipped people. Usually, its the drunk guy or girl that cannot sing and 9 times out of 10 forgot they put up a slip anyway. I also intentionally skip slow songs when I am super busy and its after midnight - but I also give warning and tell people that I am doing just that.

I've never skipped a singer. Unless you count the ones that bring requests up after my timeslot is full. I do play transision music, between every song. I have it at half level. Keeps the energy level up. Although my bar gig is "karaoke", I do play some DJ song. Only early in the night when there are only a couple singers or later in the night if a filler song goes over and I read the crowd as wanting it. Of course not if I have singers that are going to lose a song at the end of the night. Friday I played 2 non karaoke songs the whole night (not counting transision songs) and fun was had by all. I'm lucky, no divas here yet at the ONLY smoking bar in the state of Iowa.
Now, I gotta say, if I had someone driving 30 miles or more regularly to see my show, I'd find a way without compromising my principles to show them my gratitude.

Quality matters to a point.
Yes people know the difference between a $500 sound system and a $10,000 system. Same with the difference between a 500 song book and a 25,000 song book.
BUT most people are not going to make much of a big deal between a $8,000 and a $10,000 sound system or a 20,000 and a 25,000. Even if they can tell the difference they are not likely to make their decisions on which show to attend based on minor differences. The difference between such generally similar setups is not all that much and other differences between the shows make the difference to the singer. Other intangable things that cant be "bought" make much more difference. Things like the personality of the KJ, location and personality, talent of the regular signers make a larger difference.
A lot of people make a big debate out of which relatively expensive component is "better" but that really makes little difference to the average singer. Many people will notice the difference between a $25 and a $100 mic, but the difference between the various brands of $100 mics are not going to be enough of a difference to matter. Even with the worst setup personality, setting and crowd can make up for a lot and can make a great show. A karaoke show I learned karaoke at did pretty much everything wrong when it comes to setup, but made up for the failings with personality, crowd and location. It ran for about 10 years with always 30+ singers a weekend night, and was based on a songlist of about 1500 songs and a sound system worth about 1k. The only reason the show ended was the bar had to close because the building was condemned.

Some are bad, some are nice. What area? duh. Ok, I just updated my profile to add location. Chipley, Florida. Which is in the boonies. Half way between Dothan, AL and Panama City, FL. It's 45 miles to either of those "big" cities. And diagonally opposite Tacoma.

The only problem you may have is I don't play from patrons disc, I'm sure we'd like most all of the shows the people on this forum run. And we don't require absolute perfection in the sound system, but some setups are so bad they give you a headache. Those we walk away from. You won't play my discs, how about from my usb memory stick? I see all these pirates KJs, they'll download a song via limewire or wherever they do that stuff, but you show them a usb drive and they freak out like you're trying to give them a virus. Oh, yeah, it's so much safer to download it off the internet for free. I only sing when there's just a few singers. If there's a lot of singers, there's no reason for me to get in the way. But out of curiosity, how many of these do you have? Merle Haggard - Reasons To Quit Rolling Stones - Dead Flowers John Prine - any at all Many people, even the pirates, don't have those. I like singing stuff nobody else sings. My wife sings a lot of Emmylou Harris which is also in short supply. So I have our songs on CDs and a usb drive. 1 out of 4 KJs will dare to put that usb drive in their system. Turn off autoplay!

I have the Haggard & Stones. Only Prine I have is Illegal Smile. Dead Flowers gets done on occasion, the others not so much. Quote: Many people, even the pirates, don't have those. I like singing stuff nobody else sings.
My wife sings a lot of Emmylou Harris which is also in short supply. Only Emmylou songs I have are Carpenter, Mary-Chapin, Sheryl Crow & Emmylou Harris Flesh & Blood Harris, Emmylou Beneath Still Waters Harris, Emmylou Blue Kentucky Girl Harris, Emmylou Born To Run Harris, Emmylou I Got Loaded Harris, Emmylou If I Could Only Win Your Love Harris, Emmylou Mr. Sandman Harris, Emmylou One Of These Days Harris, Emmylou To Daddy Harris, Emmylou Two More Bottles Of Wine

I have every one Lonman has as well.
SC also put out "Angel From Montgomery" as a duet with Bonnie Raitt & John Prine. That's one that I will sing with the right partner.

Well ok, I've told you all in the past, I don't play discs. Only ever had one request. I do have my setup right now right where I want it. I have an opening in my set up, if someone has a suggestion, I will spend $100 on a player and a ,,(A/B switch??)

As far as I know, there's only 1 John Prine karaoke CD: Chartbusters 90246, quality is ok, but don't waste your money on it because I'm the only one that's ever going to sing it.

DigitalKJ will play directly from the disc with a standard CD or DVD drive and error corrects on the fly. I've had many comments that their CDs look better on my system than elsewhere. I've got 2 drives in mine, but I don't take the CD until the singer is up and I give it back immediately after so I won't be accused of copying it. I do have a few singers that still prefer their own CDs, but most of the CD carriers have begun to appreciate the convenience of not toting them around as I've purchased and added their favorites to my library.
