I sang at the opening night at a new karaoke venue in my town on Monday, January 26, 2009 and have sung there every Monday since then except for six nights.

The first night, I sang five songs and I have kept a running list ever since then -- and I have not repeated a song yet.

This Monday, May 23, 2011, I will sing my 500th consecutive non-repeat song and then officially end my record. I could go on but I think this is a good, round number to finish on. I will have media there and a trophy presentation.

The only karaoke records I can find anywhere are either marathon-type (singing for days on end) or a large number of singers gathering someplace to sing one song together.

If anyone knows of any record or attempt of one like mine, please let me know. Thanks!

SHOOT!!!!! If I didn't have to be somewhere this morning, I might have decided to take a drive from work (when I get off in 1 hour) out to Richmond, VA and surprise Steve by being there to witness your great feat. Might have even offered to do a duet with you (which could be your 501st song on your way to 1,000). It would have only been about a 3 1/2 hour drive for me (as vs a 2 1/2 drive for me to get home).

Nice article...

Pretty cool thing you had there. I try not to repeat to often or have a signature song. I think it gets old for the places you go to and sing the same ol' thing. Keep em' on thier toes. But to go 500. WOW!

So what was your repeat song?

@Avg Joe -- My repeat song was "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad". I asked my KJ to pick whatever he wanted to hear me sing, and that's the one he chose.

One last news article, this one from Monday night:

It really is something for sure!

I've had/got singers who for the most part sing the same songs, we've beat that subject dead pretty much. I myself from before I was a host and as a host (I am expected to sing at my one ongoing gig) have always tried to sing different songs. I'd have to get my old laptop out and count how many diff ones I have sang but it has to be in the 300 to 400 range. I just don't feel good singing the same songs all the time. But, to each his/her own eh?

I can sing lots of songs. I have done several hundred different ones. But there are only so many that fit my voice real well. Can I do tenor songs? Yes, sometimes, if I go down 2. But I am a baritone, and tenor ain't where I ought to be. Are there other songs I can sing? Sure, but I only like to sings songs I like.

So I have 140 or so that I sing on occasion, with about 40 that are my best, primetime songs. If I get to sing 4 times in a night, I'll usually pick 2 of the top 40 and 2 of the other 100 or so.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's ever done this. When I started doing karaoke (in public, anyway) I kept a list of the songs I'd sung, too--and still do. And I wanted to do a different song every time for as long as I could. I'm up to around 250 songs now, but I reached the point some time ago where I've already done most of the songs I think I sing pretty well, so I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to stick with it. My original goal was 100, but that proved easy. My next goal--500--I may never reach, especially since in the last two or three years it seems like I only get about 20 or 25 done per year, if that.

So congratulations, it's a milestone I can appreciate!
