I think I laid out a good case without mentioning it, but the gratuitous posting of that link in his reply is also one of the things that makes me think he is advertising.

But Jasonkaraoke, if you are sincere, and you have absolutely nothing to start with that product may be the option for you. But the true costs are not being advertised. They say $2.00 per song, but you will need their software (they pick that for you) and harddrive (they pick that for you too).
$200 for harddrive
$200 for software
first 50 songs free
equals $8.00 per song
Still not a terrible deal for someone with nothing to start. You could be doing your first show with absolutely nothing and still come up with something for them to sing. At a cost of four hundred dollars. At fifty songs per show, if nobody repeats your next show will cost one hundred dollars. Eventually someone will repeat and the cost will go down.

Most of the sellers listed in the link I posted earlier will sell you your first fifty songs for $2.50 each and you get to use any software and any harddrive you want while choosing your songs ala carte from many more labels.

DannyG2006, I first heard that song when John Rich did it on Celebrity Apprentice. I liked it. It's a good song. Will you be singing it the first time yourself?

You can't look at it that way, you have to have software to play karaoke songs on a computer anyway. $200 is for the software, not the songs! And the software is state of the art.

So go buy another software program, keep buying, ripping, and storing your discs. Keep buying discs with songs on them that no one will ever sing. Keep buying duplicates.

This is a LONG TERM investment, if you are scared to make a long term investment, buy another software, buy cdg's and then watch as compuhost will probably lure SC and others into the picture. Then make the long term investment and write your short term investment off the books.

I have to look at it that way.

As I said, it looks like a fair deal for someone who is just starting out and needs software and a library and a harddrive to put it on. And can even start doing very limited shows with absolutely nothing but a laptop and a sound system.

But I already have software that does everything compuhost does and so much more that I wouldn't be interested in using their software just to update my established library. Therefore I must add that to the cost. I have no need for a harddrive that I can currently get at Best Buy for forty dollars so that must also be added to the final cost.

The other thing I did not mention is that I only get an average of one "must have" request for a song I don't have per week. Calculating that into the mix, and it would take a year to break even on the initial investment. And it would have been a poor investment for me because the true cost of the music would have been nearly three times the rate I would pay if I just purchased the song elsewhere the next day.

And until they get a larger library of manufacturers, it may take much longer to get my investment back because I still won't be able to satisfy all of the requests that come in with the one product.

I also factor in the wastful spending that might occur by buying a song for a singer that may not come back to sing it again ( I have many songs that have only been sung once - my software reports that for me).

So as a long term investment for an established KJ, it looks to me that it may be one that will never pay itself off before technology surpasses it's usefullness.

Yeah, I have to look at it that way, it's good business.

Well I have a business degree, magna cum laude and for me it is a great long term investment and very smart business. I only have about 10,000 songs so I know I will average more than one a night. Even if it didn't pay for itself in the first year, it will pay for itself. Yep, there will be a new technology some day. I don't see it anytime soon but you never know.

One thing I forget to mention is I have been kicking around the idea of letting folks know, if it is in my book, it's free to sing. If it's not but I can unlock it, it will cost them $1. Then if it never gets sung again, I'm not out much. On the other hand, I'm upping my library at a very good cost. Those that don't want to pay, they don't have to. But there will be those willing. Some songs I will unlock myself,, just as I do monthly updates, but again, without the dogs.

The thing that helps me and others in my shoes is that we already use the software. We paid for it not knowing about this technology coming up. So shouldn't really count the cost of the software as part of the cost to get the media hd. Unless of course you don't plan to use the CH software.

This is a bit off subject so I'm done on my soapbox and Chip, I don't work for Invicion or Chartbuster but when I see something I like, I'm not afraid to promote it. When I see something I don't like, I'm not afraid to bash it.

Today's picture.

Image
hit play on this when looking at the above picture, it's what was playing the moment i snapped it.

DO I SPILL THE BEANS?

Venue's as a whole, hate the average 90% are pirating crackhead KJ. That's our image now. They don't know they're pirating, they just know they're sick of methhead tweakers with a laptop, and that's the "stereotype" we have now.

I'm about to throw some business up in this. Who wants a karaoke job for $100k@year? Raise your hand.

This "box" I'm building, there's a venue owner in San Jose who is going to pay me $100@day to keep it there. I never have to go on-site. Latest akdj is so good, we've decided we're not giving this one away. It's money. His friends are telling me, after I install it next week, expect it to sell like wildfire.

I'm building out San Jose first. Then I'm going to cad out a decent cabinet design, and hand it off to my cabinet maker neighbour to build. He supplies me cabs, I install hardware.

At this rate, when I hit 10 sites, that's $350k@year... Lather, rinse, repeat up and down the SF bay.

At that point (expecting to be there by winter 2012) we'll start recruiting local "KT's (karaoke techs) from each major city.

(Look at the ratio, 1 legit KJ stealing jobs from 10 pirates, not bad right?)

I'm not going to divulge everything in the plan, but the basic idea is to let customers buy songs for the venue, the venue earns equity in the form of music (from tricerasoft) Customers don't see "your list" per say, they see everything available on tricerasoft as a "list" or book.

In the last month, 7 Bamboo has earned over $700 worth of "equity" without putting out a penny. Stovall, Slep, Viveneros are you listenting? Do you really want to settle for $0.67 a song, or $20@mo?

We're kicking butt, and I'm about to kick major butt for the tricerasoft family of content providers. I just wish everyone else would come play in the pool of money with us. Now I know how Scrooge McDuck felt jumping in his money bin.

DUCKTALES WOO HOO!
