C'mon Canadians, cough it up! I've been in Toronto since Friday night, I'll be here thru the next two weekends, where to go? Thinking of going to a place called the Blue Lagoon.

I don't know about Toronto, but I just was in Thunder Bay for three days. The Canadian karaoke kicked the butt of the average show in the US. Better equipment and better host competence, by far. I went over the border to St. Cloud, Minnesota where the standard was pathetic.Of course it is a small sample size. But I have now been to karaoke in BC, Alberta, Yukon, NWT, Quebec, and Ontario. The general standard overall was much higher than in the US. Someone said about that, "not much else to do in the winter, I guess....".

Well shoot dog gone! I've been to one in a small town by Ottawa, disc based, not much of a library, equipment was a little sub par but it was a good time had by all!

I'm approximately three hours west of Toronto, and the Karaoke in this general area runs the whole gamut... from excellent to pathetic.
Having attended several shows at various venues across the border in Michigan, I can't say that the international boundary makes much difference... some were good.. some, not so much.

I have been to 16 or so different shows in 6 provinces or territories, and it has on average been better than the US by a good margin. Maybe I was just fortunate. I have been to several hundred different shows in 150 cities in the U.S., so my sample size is bigger here.

Going to the Grindhouse downtown. Half hour drive if no traffic problems. However Katy Perry tonight and the J's so crossing fingers. This host is highly rated in the area.

I love how some people think of Canada. I live in Halifax, the larget natural ice free harbour in the world and thus we have a lot of shipping plus a very busy international airport for its size. One of the easiest methods used to apprehend illegal aliens is when they hail a taxi and ask to go to Toronto (a minimumof a 15 hour, closer to 18 hour trip, almost 1,800kms or a little over 1,100 mi). It takes about 10 days to go from Halifax to Vancouver.

My father and I have met many Canadians, who when we tell them where we've been -- which includes Labrador City, Inuvik, Churchhill, Radisson, Yellowknife, and everywhere in between -- say, "You've been more places in Canada than any Canadian I know!"

@ Mickey... I too have lived and/or worked in every province & territory... from St. Johns, Newfoundland in the east, to Victoria, BC in the west, to nine months in Alert, at the tip of Ellesmere Island, not far from the north pole... all courtesy of our federal government.
I note you mentioned Inuvik (where I spent 10 years, and did my first paying DJ gig), and wonder what brought you there?
Cheers
Earl
p.s. Early next month, I'll be flying to British Columbia for a few days, to visit with my daughter, and where I'm sure we'll attend a Karaoke venue or two, or three, or more..

But no, she may have been just teasing..

Sheer cussedness. I travel a lot for fun. My father and I just finished our 11th annual trip together, started when he lost most of his vision due to detached retinas. We have gone all over the place, spending anywhere from 10 days to 5 weeks on the road. Those trips include Indiana-Alaska and return (10,000 miles), Indiana - Inuvik (9500 miles), Illinois-Labrador City (6600), Indiana - Radisson (4800) and several others. My wife and I have traveled all over as well, and sometimes I do solo trips for combined business and pleasure. I have put over 550,000 miles on cars in the last 20 years -- and my commute is a 40-second walk to my office building.

Finally some Toronto karaoke to report. Went to a place called the Blue Lagoon last night. Close to Lake Ontario. The host was first rate with great equipment including the same mixer as me. It was a nice set up and lots of good singers. When I turned in my first slip, the host recognized me from facebook. Hope to go back there again!
