This will be great if they aren't going to discriminate like AI does.

Like Cue said, it was a play on words... I am not on the show......they'd boo the crap outta me... ....just like they boo-ed me in 73.....I starred in a short porn flick, and after receiving the film, the critics said it was a bit under-developed...I told them we were sorry, but do to budget restraints we had used a cheaper generic film.....they said actually, the film quality was crystal clear......

I say this show hits closer to home, than any reality singing show they've ever made.......I predict it will do very well at least for 2 or 3 seasons.......what do ya'll think?

I agree, more people will relate. There will be others that will snub their noses. Again, I hope they don't age discriminate.

We did qualifying for 6 weeks, semi-finals, and 2 finales for the Mid and Southern regions of the state of Florida and the turnout was less than expected. The Karaoke World Championship rep was not very helpful and the ABC network was non-existent. Poor communication was a key factor here and little to no advertising was also HUGE. We finally did get the local ABC affiliate involved but it wasn't until the finals. I don't think they(local affiliate) thought this Karaoke Battle USA was gonna happen because they couldn't get any concrete info from anyone besides us here locally. Also, there were only two karaoke companies in the whole state of Florida that did this competition and we were one of them so getting singers to drive all the way down here (Naples) and all the way up to Jacksonville (other location) was tough. Florida is a big state and should have been represented better. Locations in Tampa and Orlando would have been ideal but that didnt happen. We had a few contestants drive from Miami, Sarasota, Tampa, etc. but most were locals. The turnout could've been much better had things been planned out. The top 2 male and female winners from Southern Florida are all very talented and capable singers. We did a fund raiser for them here last week and raised a couple thousand dollars to help get them to NYC where they will battle it out in the Eastern regional finals on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It stinks that they have to pay there own way to get up there and rent a hotel, airfare, etc. but that's show business. I wish we could have done more but am grateful for the money we did raise. As far as the success of this show........ I dont know! Any new reality show will take its fair share of bumps and bruises. There seems to be a surplus of new singing reality shows lately (The voice, x-factor, etc) so I'm not sure if they'll make the cut. Hopefully, ABC will get their act together and put on a dynamic show. I'm anxious and annoyed at the same time:) The show will debut August 2011 on a Monday night... That's all the info I could get on show times.

I think it's success will depend on the niche audience response. Do they want to sit home and watch someone else sing? Or do they want to go out and sing themselves? Personally, if it's karaoke, I'd rather sing, than watch someone else with no chance to enter the rotation. I'm just selfish like that I guess.

Athena, the way it was handled by the KWC and ABC you were probably lucky to not have to deal with it this time. Unorganized and rushed are the two words that immediately come to mind. This was all done last minute and this is ABC's first endeavor into karaoke. I would suggest contacting Karaoke World Championships through Facebook and go from there. Hopefully, next year it will run smoother and things will be set in place.

I was approached a few months back for this as well by ABC and unorganized and rushed is exactly correct. We decided not to participate just because it was so unorganized it would've been 10 times the work for us than it should've been. All of the advertising costs etc. would've been on us and in a busy wedding season there just wasn't the time to devote. I hope it does take off and if so maybe we'd consider hosting next year.

Was approached via email stating they noticed I had a legit 1:1 library and they wanted me to host the contest. Told him that I didn't have a venue to host it in when in fact I was about to approach a bar about having karaoke. Luckily they wouldn't pay my price which was only $25 more than the last host they had. a week later my laptop and hd got stolen together for the first time (had that happen twice, called the police both times).

It's funny you mention that Danny because we were told by KWC that they were having problems finding "legal" karaoke hosts in Florida to host this event. I say funny because I know of many legal hosts in the Southern and middle parts of Florida and none were contacted to my knowledge. Honestly, when we were first contacted about possibly being hosts for this I was very suspicious. We were told that there was an upfront fee involved and to either pay it or pass it on to the venues. I thought the fee was a little high and negotiated a "better" one and the venues involved agreed to pay it. We hosted this event at three different locations from the onset but reduced it to two after a few weeks due to lack of interest. It was pretty rough in the beginning because 1. we didn't have enough time to properly advertise it, 2. It was extremely difficult gathering additional info about Karaoke Battle USA, and 3. KWC were very hard to correspond with and weren't sure of many of the details we needed for contestants. I dont think they knew all the details until just a few weeks ago but that's not all on them. As is with most karaoke contests, once the word got out business picked up. The last 2 weeks of qualifying were pretty packed and local tv and radio made the semi-finals(2) and finales(2) super busy. Probably not that much more busy than the contests we normally do but the tiny pub we got from the radio, tv, and paper will help with future business.

There was evidently a try out about 45 minutes from us but I didn't read about it until days later when I noticed a tiny blurb in an entertainment calendar. I thought it was strange that for a TV show, something bigger wasn't made of it. More of the local venues could have been put on alert to send in their better singers. As it was, it was probably just whoever was already going to the venue in question plus a bit of word of mouth that didn't reach very far.
