So Amy Winehouse had a rough, drug 'n drink sort of life that came to a tragic end just a few days ago and along with that: Dan Peek -- famous for his high harmony vocals on "A Horse with No Name" with the 1970's band "America" -- died in his Missouri home on Sunday ... this according to the singer's father. He was 60. The St. Francis County Coroner says Peek died from severe heart disease and an enlarged heart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzUQZw3wfro&feature=related

I feel the same as Lonman does America's songs will play on forever, Amy will be forgotten in a few years.

Only that stupid Rehab song that she probably should have followed.

But probably the thing that will most ensure she is remembered is that she "joined the 27 club", which apparently is something she had talked about.

I don't remember who said it, and I'm paraphrasing:
Someone said that those who have become famous through their talent, such as John Belushi, John Candy, Jimi, Janice, etc.. had one major responsibiliy- not to kill themselves- and they just couldn't pull it off.... ------------------------------------------------------------ For the people side of their lives- families and friends- I feel empathy for their loss.
For those who couldn't figure out how NOT to kill themselves, I feel..... maybe anger... and absolute amazement at the pure stupidity and waste of it all.

More sad news from the music industry. Justin Bieber was found alive in his apartment earlier today.

I think Ms. Winehouse probably was a lot more famous across the pond than she was here. Funny how the inevitability of her death was always there. I find it sad that a young person with so much talent just couldn't get it together enough to survive.

Karen, I agree her death was tragic, and she was talented. Trouble is, she made stupid choices. R. A.Heinlein says it best: "Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can't help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime: the sentence is death, there is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity."

She got there just because it was that time and era. Beside from Bobby McGee, Piece of My Heart, and Mercedes Benz, what ultimate hits did she truly have? This is also coming from an Austin guy.
