Hello all. I am a new KJ starting up and had a question which I'm sure has been asked many times in this forum. (If there is another thread like this please direct me!)

In the opinion of you all, the community, what are the best studios that have the most quality songs. (In my short experience I very much like Sound Choice as the top studio overall, but it seems that Sunfly is very good too)

On the other side of the spectrum what are some of the studios that are not used much because their songs are not deemed quality by consumers.

I'm sure that some studios are good in one are and some are good in others but I am looking for answers as if you had to make an overall rating of the studios as a whole. I'm interested to find out what you all think! :D

Most don't really refer to them as 'studios' around here, most refer to them as manufacturers (manus).

I can't find the past threads on this right now, but will say it's all subjective. Some will hear crappy brands as really good and others will hear good brands and not think so highly of them.

My preference is Sound Choice, Chartbuster, SBI (although some of these are hit & miss), Sunfly (which now uses SBI music tracks), Zoom.

For new music, I like Chartbuster, but Lonnie was right when he said their swipes need to be fixed. Bad thing about Chartbuster is that some of their early renditions aren't that great.

I am new to Sunfly, but haven't been let down yet.

Pop Hits Monthly is pretty good for new stuff, too. I find that Chartbuster does a little better job of picking hits than does PHM. Plus, you get more songs on a Chartbuster monthly release.

I haven't really used CB much but I am a Compuhost user and it is very tempting to want to sign up for their instant on demand service through Compuhost.

Just want to be sure that CB songs, the new releases would be my focus, are worth buying.

I was also wondering about manufacturers like Music Maestro, Sweet Georgia Brown, Pioneer, and All Hits.

Pioneer is awesome. I just converted a bunch of laser disks to digital format. Took a long time, but the renditions are great. I'm probably going to hear it about this next sentence, but here goes anyways: Pioneer put out much better versions than Sound Choice did. They still have some not so good ones (every manu does), but I think they had a better "spot on rate" than any other manu.

SGB is ok for some songs or as a filler for the titles you don't have. All Hits is terrible for most songs. Music Maestro is OK - I like their country versions very much. Only thing I don't like about MM is once you press play, you have like 10-12 seconds to wait before you actually hear music.

Chartbuster is great for country. Their older non-country tracks can be hit or miss. I have not had any recent releases unlocked from my KJMP drive that were not very good. Lyric swipes are occasionally problematic. Played American Pie Saturday night and by the end of the song had the timing practically full right in Compuhost.

Hell of a deal that is. Just buy the songs as you need them.

They've always been really good at country (they were only country originally), but their pop/rock stuff lacked quite a bit. However their newer stuff in those genres are alot better quality recordings than even 5 years ago. I have been buying the monthly releases for nearly 3 years now and haven't been disappointed musically. The swipes aren't as good as they could be however my software (I believe Compuhost does as well) has an on the fly lyric swipe adjustment in which I just bump it up to +.5 and all is pretty close.

Music Maestro pretty much sucks all the way around - some of their country is ok, others seem to think their Elvis & Doo Wop music is ok - although I do not know what they are hearing other than the fact they are the only versions of some of those songs which makes them the best there is (lol), I feel the same way for SGB, haven't really heard many that I care for, but they do have their gems. I personally like Pioneer - musically they were pretty accurate to original song, although the discs themselves tended to be lower levels volume wise. All Hits is pretty much Sweet Georgia Brown for much of it, although some of their earlier stuff was pretty tolerable, wouldn't want to build a library around them - good for filling holes in an already decent core library.

They are the same -- All Hits is just SGB with better lyrics production.

I sing mostly country, and I couldn't disagree more. They have many, many clinkers.

There are four songs that I will use as an example to disagree.

Young Americans ~ David Bowie: Correct lyrics

Feelin' Alright ~ Joe Cocker: Full version & correct lyrics

Rocky Mountain Way ~ Joe Walsh: Full version

I Am The Walrus ~ The Beatles: Full version & correct key & tempo

These Sound Choice versions are superior.

This could be fun. You give me a bad song by Pioneer, and I'll give you one by SC.

How about Baby Got Back by SC. TERRIBLE!

MM has several good doo wop and 50's 60s.....they also have a few you can't find anywhere else...that puts those few in a class by themselves.... :)

ps......I really like Universal Studios.... :)

 No not every song was perfect (like ANY manu), but the majority of their stuff was pretty close to original. And yes I admit Rocky Mt Way could have had a longer outro on the Pioneer, I seriously doubt that i'd let the 3 minutes of intrumental on the SC ever play out. Once the singing is over, it gets faded out anyway.

LOL! Can't argue there! I use the DK version!

Also, any SC song by The Doors are stinkers. Legends & believe it or not, the old Standing Ovation aka: Backstage are the two discs I use combined!

Too many singers usually to allow 3 minutes of wasted stage time. That is 1 more singer that can be squeezed in. Same with FreeBird, Comfortably Numb, Hotel Cali just to name a few that get faded after the singing.

It's the sound Lonman, the velvet collection has more of a LIVE and acoustic sound that none of the manu can't reproduced  Their tracks sound amazing for a solo performer and it's the closest you can get to the original Elvis RCA sound
