Yep, we used to use fog and actually had someone who was unusually highly allergic to the smoke that it produced and went into seizures and passed out. Even though I think that might have been an isolated incident, that was the last time we used it.

Propylene glycol allergies are very real, although pretty rare. People with that allergy usually avoid places where a fog machine might be used, but a local bar doing karaoke usually isn't expected to have fog. You don't want to surprise people that way, as you found out.

There is fog juice made from vegetable glycerine, but I don't know how hard it is to find, or if it works in all fog machines.

I choose to do without the fog.

Everytime I have ever tried to use fog someone bitches about it so I decided to stop. It was just another piece of equipment to had to set up, run and break down.

My fog machine is always in the trailer (all the way in the front). If I'm in a new place, I either ask them when hired or when I drag my first piece of equipment in. Depending on their answer, I either don't or do bring it in. So it's no extra burden on me. I've never been asked to shut it off and I don't go crazy with it.

First bar I worked at, the owner wanted the whole room so fogged up you couldn't see people 10 foot away. he would come in and activate it himself. So I started charging extra for the fog for him.

A couple of points.

1. I love fog with lights and used to use it liberally (in venues where I could install all or part of a system).

2. Yes some people have reactions to fog (and not in a good way).

3. Yes fog can and does set off fire alarms and so do hazers to a lesser extent, there are some fire detection systems that are more sensitive than others, all of them work on partical detection, if you can see it so can the detection system (had a home coming dance at a school evacuated because of it). In my area it is next to impossible to get permission to use fog at any public building anymore, the only way to do so in a school is to pay a fire marshall to be there for the duration of the dance (the fire alarms are turned off while he is on site)

All of that aside though many small bars do not have fire alarms in them so the use of fog is not an issue.

Long ago though I stopped taking fog, effects lighting or par cans to karaoke shows, because it was just something extra to carry and setup and the money and patronage was still the same so not having it did not affect the show.

Sometimes the effect can be from Hollywood.
But wasn't.
Not Photo shopped.
This is the magic of live performance.
His expression was his performance.
He gave it all.

Do any of you know what we are seeing here?

Halogen light is not the same colours as Led lighting.
It is actually really big.
Halogen which I love can not compare to Led.
Led is weird. Cheap and affordable.
Halogen is not weird.
The same colours give very different effects.
Would like to hear from you.
