that's a helluva good point, BJC.
As with all corporations, Phil can't be the only one that is coming up with these rules. Maybe we're not looking in the right area.
To me, the fact is merely that we're just trying to help someone.

Looks like solicitation to me. Web address & all.......hmmmmm. Why is that link acceptable & a link trying to help somebody SAFELY remove a ground link without electricution is not. I guess you can come here & advertise only if you are asking for money.
I need food for my family any help will do, hit my web link &.......

just a quick question... will posts that conflict with a sponsor also be deleted??? or just links? I mean if I post that Super Duper Karaoke Gadget is far superior to XYZ Sponsor of this site (without posting alink) and give a side by side comparison based on experience and research, will that post be deleted? when links to information to keep someone from electrocuting themselves because of a ground loop problem gets deleted but a link to someone's PAYPAL account and their website doesn't, well, something just stinks about that... I am not soliciting anything here but if anyone reading this could send any extra money they have (money just laying around and not being used) to the following P.O box... -tig

Not taking sides, but I do want to point this out.
I'm sure that part of the moderating is done by humans who don't see every post as it appears. I recently saw a number of sites mentioned in the forum - including Musiciansfriend.com but not as a link.
We have a similar problem at another site when inappropriate content is posted. We either see it when we read the forum or we are notified by readers of the content. Doesn't mean it's not removed, but it might get seen by a number of people before it's taken down.
And yes, I'm sure the sponsors and owners are helping to drive the decision. I agree there's a problem here, but I eagerly await the final decision and the guidelines.

I just think that no more links ever should be posted.
BUT by the same token, I think that the sponsors, who pay for the site and are the ones complaining (at least initially) need to come online and defend their products we have bemoaned about...
Until recently, this was a terrific site, where lots of information could be shared. Now, it's a no-man's land where you're literally not sure what's going to happen. Will my post be deleted? or not. Will so and so get my email address? or not. will some faceless and nameless sponsor get upset that I or others have trashed a product that many people don't like, and we're just trying to share the word.
If they think the professional opinions of those of us that have offered them are unfair, then the complainers can come on line and defend themselves!

Or get the companies & retail outlets we all rave about to sponsor the site! As far as discs go, almost every one of these sponsors are great but as far as equipment goes......eh, eh!

Yes, if the sponsors were active on the board it would make things easier.
Yes, if they offered decent equipment it would make things easier.
Yes, if we had clearly defined rules on links, web site listings, email posting it would be easier.
There are lots of things that would make it easier to know if your post will be acceptable in the moderators eyes. The problem isn't that links/website information/emails are or aren't allowed, but the fact that some are and some aren't creates an uneven playing field that makes it difficult to assist. I just make my recommendations and hope that manufacturer and model information I post makes it through the censorship.
