wonder if hooked up to my show computer if it will allow me to use the smartphone function. One way to test it is to try it and try linking up to it via my home computer.

That is a definite. I plan on not having a kiosk, but offering the smart phone option. It works great.

I set up a system with DNS and DHCP set such that no matter what web site you go to on that wireless network, you end up at the Song Requester.

None except as I have noted above ( karaoke kamikaze - used with a book)

There's still a way, Diafel. I think. I'll try it out next week.

i am liking the idea, does anyone just use 1?
at $170.00 per program key, plus an old comp for whatever i can get it for, and a touchscreen, it adds up quickly to do more than one (not a knock at all on Chips software price, it looks well worth the price to me) but 1 alone is at least 2 years worth of book printing all at once let alone 2.

I only use one.
It's not an issue, even when I'm packed. Line ups are pretty much nonexistent, as noted above.

thanks Diafel,
i mean no offense, just don't know, what is packed for you?
my normal nights are now 20-25 and packed is 35+
i am liking this idea, just wanting to investigate before pouring out $250.00+ instead of reprinting books for $75.00.

and it's notjust the $75 printing costs: it 's the binders, sleeves, assembly, repair, slips, pencils etc... and with a kiosk you don't have to do it again. Ever.
remember also that you don't have to spend much on hardware. My kiosks are made out of rescued computers and the touchscreen monitors came out of drug store photo processing hardware.

So the monitors cost me $70 and I paid $24 for a wireless netcard and the total was $95 for the whole shootin' match.

Just remember that a kiosk sends such little data the computer can be very slow and still appear fast for users.

Mine are 166 pentium processors with a 3gb hard drive that run win '98

And may I also mention, that if need be, a mouse can be used, can it not? Just in case you cannot get your hands on a touchscreen screen. If that is the case, you could take an old laptop or something along those lines. ( I think a desktop PC would be so clunky and a bi--mess to set up. )

I've seen pics of Chip's mobile stands for these. Can't find them. How does everyone else mount theirs?

Amen and Amen, you don't HAVE to thow money at something to make it function. Any old junky computer will work. My kiosks are mouse driven and wired, no one complains or even notices.

Definitely does -- I have spent the last couple days testing it.

I will have to get a hold of a smartphone to test it out. I have one but service has been cut off on it. Will have to reactivate it I guess to test it out. $45 isn't too hard to deal with.

I cannot wait to get a kiosk set up. However they will be in conjunction with my books, as a singer I still enjoy to sit & browse a book and will continue to offer this option for those people. I will need to find a stand alone kiosk (not connected to any hosting software) that does keep the singer history, this will be a requirement.

That really isn't necessary -- you can test it with a laptop. If the web browser works on the laptop, it will work on the smart phone.

I don't know about songfinder but tricerasoft's kiosk has singer history and is stand alone as well as works with software players. It also works with an iphone/android app so that your singers don't have to tie up the kiosk.

The Tricerasoft software will not word as far as I can tell as it scans for files, you cannot add a database ie csv/txt/etc. I do not use standard mp3/cdg files so that one will not work properly.

What sort of files do you use. Which OS's? What sort of rotation? Pizza pan? Sing-one bring-one. I'm getting that coding urge again, might even get back to work on the editor.

I would not want it to add to or change anything to the rotation/playlist. Just possibly print up a slip or maybe send it wirelessly to the computer as a slip in a small window that would display all the songs in the order accepted for the night.
My databases for my phone app systems are in a comma delimitted text and csv file.

one thing I am dying to try now that i got mvself a wireless router, is theoretically with internet access, you could be able to cue songs from anywhere.

so if you wanted, a person could cue up their songs before they even arrived at the venue which would be convient if someone is running late.

they would have to have your ip address to do that, I believe. It would also be confusing to the show host when their turn came up and they weren't there yet. If I were the host and they don't come up when called, I would call their name three times and if they don't come up I 86 their request. So now that I have the ability to enter remotely I would have to rethink that policy.
