I've got my database, why do I need yours? If one has to go out and buy the hardware, why buy your software? That's the silliest attempt at a dig I've seen in a long time, unless of course your database and hosting software came with a computer and your microphone came with a mixer that came with an amplifier that came with speakers and your lights came with a stage. This picking at every little thing is getting out of control and is just causing everyone to make themselves look bad.

I'm not going to worry about it. If he wants to know about a kiosk, I certainly have the experience... as does Sevarin.
May of his concerns like database origin, compatibility, hardware specs and most of all costs, are not unusual by any means.
It's simply difficult for KJ's who have used books for so long, to conceive that there is such a radically different way.... that works and so they tend to invent all types of situations that just don't exist. A collection of "what if's?"
"What if there's a line of angry singers waiting for 1 slow drunk person?"
"What if the patrons hate it so much they don't use it?"
What if, what if, what if......
I always recommend that they talk to someone who has used (or is using) a kiosk in their clubs, like Exweedfarmer, Sevarin, or MtnKaraoke, or Danny G. Let the experience of others be the guide, not some preconceived notion of what you might think it could possibly be.
As far as timberlea is concerned, he simply likes to argue (been accused of that myself) and if you look back at his last 20 posts, you'll see that most of them are digs of one sort or another. In any case, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't mean much.

I've got better things to spend my money on than updating books which is the reason I have gone kiosk. I haven't used it yet due to theft of computers but will be using it now that I have a new gig. I figure introduce the device on the first night and there shouldn't be any issues other than how do you use it? Got no problem showing them how. Hopefully if I show one, they'll show others and I won't be tied up trying to teach how it's done. Speaking of the new show, it reminds me that I am going to have to turn on the marquee on so that the names scroll across the screen. Had been using a small 13" tv for a singer's monitor but they have a big screen that I am going to be hooking up to.

Usually, if a few of your regulars get used to it and know how to work the Kiosk, there's always a few that enjoy helping others and showing of their Kiosk skills... no worries

I will continue to still offer books. I try to offer what I (me personally) would like to see at someone elses show because I do enjoy to browse the books. But I am working on a kiosk system to use in conjunction with the books as well for those that want to use it. Lust like the phone app book I use - although not too many actually utilize that as far as I can tell. Mickey set up my online book and set it up to be kiosk ready so this is what I will most likely utilize.

we do it the old fashioned way...manually and dont use a songbook program. DH is a perfectionist. This way does take forever everytime we update books

I export my list to numbers program. I have also painstakingly gone through the list manually to correct errors. When I add new songs, I add them to a yellow sheet of "recently added" list in the book. When I feel that list has gotten out of control and needs to be inserted alphabetically I reprint the book.
But, I use laptops I as my primary songbook. (ones I have found deals on and purchased for cheap). Like Lon said, some people just like to browse the books.
Also, the books are a source of good advertisement for me as well. Inside, the first thing people see is a page full of business cards. We have our logo and number on everything! The top of each page list our name and number and even our song slips look like a mini business card. We have gotten many phone calls and private bookings just from people using the songbooks and taking a card with them.

You get your own (inexpensive) hardware, it's the software you purchase. here are 2 of mine. made from drugstore touchscreens and win 98 computers rescued from the garbage... All right, so I learned how to use the search function. Chip, how are the monitors attached to the cart?

Probably a small piece of wood U-bolted to the handle then the tv/monitor mount bolted to that. That's how I mounted a singer monitor to our stage rail anyway.

Looks like people would accidently kick the bottom brace.
