From the kiosks I've seen pictured, they would either be too bulky for a venue and/or vehicle ot the laptop type, easily walked away.

The laptop could be picked up and walked away with... in front of a room full of witnesses, bringing the show to a screeching halt. Probably won't though.
Also, all of my laptops are loaded with security location features that will alert me to their location whenever there is need.

Mine uses exactly same footprint as 1.5 regular pieces of paper and has been used regularly in venues that seat less than 60 people. #2. The screen retracts and this unit fits in a standard minivan - standing upright. #3. I've never had a kiosk (even a laptop version) spring legs and walk away. There are too many eyes in the room to let that happen.

The laptop idea is good, just keep it in your constant vision. Or someone you trust. Thankfully where I frequent for karaoke, I am well known for being a good guy, and I live up to it. If I see someone say sneak up to a table where somone just dropped cash and just snatch it away, I'm the type to go say something. A drink goes outside, someone messes around with the bar, or anything in it, I will not hesitate to bring attention to it. And as I have learned from experience, Facebook can help to retrieve objects that have been stolen. Hopefully where you are/operate this will all apply as well. You are right about the witnesses, as I was sort of mentioning, but sometimes it does happen. A karaoke bar I frequent did have a wall picture stolen, and it was a fair size. But that's where Facebook came in handy. I know a few people who posted what was stolen, and as the cameras caught what the stealer was wearing. The picture was returned within a few days. But like you said, a laptop can also have the security features like a GPS module, a lockable stand of some kind, or even one of those very handy WiFi computer finders. If you have it on, ( which I am sure you would if you were using it as a kiosk, just in case, ) and anyone gets access to the internet on it, your home computer goes: "It's riiiggghhhttt... Here!"

I have yet to see anyone even TRY to steal my lappy. It is always in my direct line of sight and like Chip said. I'm sure the show would come to a screeching halt if someone even tried. If you're that concerned, get yourself a laptop lock and lock it to the table. Not hard to do. $10 ought to do it.

Here's how my stands work: Attachment:
File comment: Once retracted, it fits in the minivan standing up.

File comment: Here is how it will adjust. The "head" also will tilt and lock for convenience.

Hope to have mine finished this afternoon. Paint is drying now. I'm going with the laptop for now. If I go to touchscreen I will have to figure out how to attach the computer to the stand.

Mine simply sits on the bottom - i have an "edge" piece so it can't slide off and it is strapped to the cart with a bungy cord. Nothing moves... except the height/tilt adjustment. I roll it in, slide up the head, plug it in and switch it on and I'm done.

I'd do a very careful check on that. I'd be very surprised that THEIR insurance would cover YOUR equipment.

I still need to screw the top base cover to the underneath side of the table and not sure if I will leave the handle on or not, I can just unscrew it off if I want. I got this stand for $1. I glued 2 pieces of Oak together after routing out a hole in the bottom one to cover the mechanism that stuck above the surface of the table. 2 1 ft pieces of flex craft (which I already had) are glued to the oak. The top of the flex craft is velcroed to the bottom of the laptop. I made sure I didn't cover the fan. The flex craft allows the laptop to breath. This thing is solid as a rock!
I'm going to put a mouse platform on it, add a retractable mouse that has just enough slack in it that a mouse won't fall on the floor if someone drops it. Then it will be finished. A guy at work is working on getting me a good price on a system that is a touchscreen and the computer is attached to the backside of the monitor. The whole thing is about 4 inches thick from the front of the monitor to the back of the computer. Depending on the price, I may upgrade. If it's too expensive, I may buy a touchscreen and then a cheap computer and mount both to my table top. I'm just afraid it may not be stable even though this stand is like a rock!
Had a couple friends come over, pointed them to the kiosk without instructions and within a minute each had sent me a song. Neither are computer whizs although both have computers.

well maybe the actual insurance wouldn't cover it, I just meant that the bar is responsible for my equipment while I am playing there, because that's what was in my contract.

But even then I seriously doubt you'd be able to recoup anything in all honesty.

They also are involved in the music business and because my hubby rents and sells equipment, I'm pretty sure that not honoring my contract would strain that relationship. Also, they happen to friends.
