Just printed new books, but recycled the sheet protectors from the old binders. Boy were they a mess, so I went down to target, and got a tube of the anti-bacterial wipes and did all the books. Problem was that they left a residue that makes them just as sticky as before, only sanitized.
What's YOUR method of cleaning?

yep, garbage can. I only print 3 books at a time now days and only put about 5000 songs in them. It saves money, time, and headache.

Had a full bottle of Jagermeister spilled on a book earlier this year. Used a damp (warm water) clothe and went one page at a time. Got rid of the pages sticking together but still stained.

I wipe the outside of the books off when needed with some 409 and paper towels. But the sheet protectors go in the garbage when its time. I just don't have the patience to wipe each page in 10 books.

amonia and warm water mix will remove the yellowing from cigarette smoke.
but again it's time consuming.

i just replace when they get old... use to anyways..

moved to a couple of kiosk touchscreen machines and
it's so much easier.

We don't use sheet protectors due to the expense and more importantly the time needed to insert pages. If a book gets wet, lay it out and let it air dry.

I used to wipe each individual page down with a mix of Lysol or Mr. Clean and water. Still get the antibacterial effect, but no stickiness.
Then I went to spiral bound books made from laser copied pages with no page protector. It worked very well and the books are still in great shape, nearly a year later. I would just lay them out to dry if they got wet. Not may have, though.
Now I have a maintenance free kiosk system. No more printing, stuffing pages, and wiping books down. And updates are a snap!

I love the kiosk idea, but it's just not in the cards right now, maybe next year. A fellow KJ has the spiral bound and the books are a mess because of beer. That angle isn't appealing at all to me, in addition, the binders give an easier option to add updates, and my singers love the updates.
So for now I'm stuck doing it the ol' fashioned way.

Not really. Just buy a junker computer at a garage sale with a regular CRT screen, put away the keyboard, use a touchscreen interface and leave only a mouse on the table. It's the same thing.... I have several customers that do this --- works the same as a touchscreen, except you use a mouse instead of your finger. Then, at a later date, you can swap out the screen for touchscreen monitor and your patrons will already know how to use it.

I actually used a mouse before I got my touch screen.Worked fine!

That sounds easy enough if I end up doing it. Right now, working at three different bars 7 nights a week, with what I'm getting paid, it's just not worth it to haul that stuff around setting it up and breaking it down each night. I'd rather print books every six months, and wipe them down every now and then when it's dead.
What I could do though, is keep the kiosk/s at the bar I'm at 5 nights a week, and just use the books for the other two shows.

When I start using my kiosk, it will actually be easier to haul around than the books. I don't have to print up song slips anymore, I don't have to clean the books, I don't have to replace the worn books, I don't have to update the books anymore. Total cost of my kiosk right now is $100. 99 of that was for the program. I'll keep one book in my gator case in case someone wants to browse looking for ideas. But even that book isn't going to be updated anymore.
