we do 5 hours. while one is singing we hand out the next mic and keep the filler music to 10 seconds or less, usually more like 4 to 5.

Here's ours--it is a bit monotone as we only had 10 to 15 singers last night as opposed to 21-25 the past few weeks. Lots of people were out of town and just the diehards showed. Sorry for lack of detail--it was hand-written. Four songs I couldn't read the handwriting this morning but 3 were SC and 1 was CB. May be different tonight. We were subbing for Friday hosts and it is a more conservative crowd than Sats.

Where at? I will be in Toronto October 7th and will be leaving on the 13th. If it's somewhere close to my route home heck yeah! Just picked up a gig on the 14th, sorry can't make that date.

That's interesting... how many times do you recommend it when a singer doesn't know? Do you display duplicates? It's very easy to inadvertently slant a list if you do these things.. (not accusing, just observing) I can safely say that 0% of all songs sung were SC... but since I don't offer it, that in itself is slanted as well.

Ours is slanted as we don't print duplicates in our books, although we have a master list on computer and if someone thinks to ask for a different version we can do that for them. One example is a few oldtimers prefer to sing Legends Janis Joplin to SC.
But I think many are responding also to the point that SC is outdated, becoming obsolete, etc. So it surprised me that the majority of song titles selected are ones included in the SC library, making their product still useful to a karaoke show. I expected ours to be more CB as we are in a country Honky Tonk. I would have to recheck our master list but the majority of discs we own are not SC by brand yet the majority of songs chosen to sing were those available on SC.

I can safely say that 0% of all songs sung were SC... but since I don't offer it, that in itself is slanted as well. Here's another question.... comparing all of the SC songs you are saying were sung at your most recent show to all of the other brands, how many SC discs do you have in your library as compared to the other brands? If the proportion is higher, the chances are good that the selection of SC to the others will be higher too. Going back to the 1st page of this topic, I posted how many songs I sing from the different brands (that I have burned onto my own personal discs which I bring with me when I go out). Taking that a step further, here is a small comparison (from that list) of the number of songs I sing (from those 11 discs) to the number of discs I own for those brands: Brand...... Discs owned...... Songs sung (159) from personal discs AH......... 11..................... 4 (2.5 percent) DG.......... 8..................... 2 (1.2 percent) DK.......... 51................... 14 (8.8 percent) MM......... 23..................... 5 (3.1 percent) PIO......... 25..................... 6 (3.7 percent) PS.......... 65.................... 21 (13.2 percent) SC......... 155.................... 51 (32 percent) Now, if you were to take the number of songs chosen by brand and compared it to the number of discs in your library, the proportions would be quite different.

Danny,
What percentage of your library is now SC?
Because if it's most of your library, your list above offers no alternate choices for customers.
I could produce a list twice as long with exactly ZERO sound choice tracks... would that be objective and fair?... Nope, just like yours.

Chip, why in the world, other than stick it to SC, would I want the other inferior brands in my collection?
When I ripped my discs last I only ripped the songs not available on the best quality brand out there.

Not the point Danny, if your library is 99% SC then there's really no point in stating that 99% of the songs sung are SC is there? Besides, there are plenty of patrons that choose other brands over SC... if they are available. Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" was recorded in several different renditions and is available in karaoke in either the key of "C" (DK) or "A" (JVC). Some women want the higher key, most do not, but in your case, you're pretty much a one-trick pony. It's all about what's best for the patron isn't it?

But if you would be thinking of a surprise visit, we have changed venues to the Indian Creek Tavern (just Google that). Same time, 2nd Tuesday of the Month at 7:30. Anyone else who is in or near the Cincy area is welcome, of course!

This is an excellent thread idea. Maybe we can start over and give instructions at the beginning of the thread that people should confine their posts to only what was sung last night. It seem like there are plenty of other threads where the merit of SC vs. other manufacturers could be debated and where other miscellaneous types of comments and discussions could be conducted. I think it's useful to know what people are singing around the country and that information can benefit a lot of people.
