I asked Invicion the following question, "“Also, are there plans to add Sound Choice to the KJMP?”
Response----- "We would love to work with Sound Choice however they have stated that they are no longer going to be producing new karaoke songs."
Wow, while this may or may not be true, a major player in the karaoke support business says it is so. A few members of the forum have stated this already, now it looks more solid. I may be jumping the gun or missing something here but SC needs to be straight forward with people. So apparently they are only professional litigators now.
Bad thing is, even if they aren't going to produce tracks anymore, they could make money teaming up with Invicion and selling their songs thru the KJMP.

I agree. Having the Sound Choice library available through KJ Media Pro HD would be a good thing. They would make money and we would have access to any SC song that we need.

They have had that stated on their website for the last few months at least about not producing any more songs.

Lonman wrote: They have had that stated on their website for the last few months at least about not producing any more songs. True, but they attempt to give the impression that if piracy ended they would reenter the production business. Soundchoice Website wrote: Due to the extreme level of piracy by consumers and commercial karaoke hosts we are not able to record and release new music and make a profit. If you would like new music from Sound Choice, please don’t steal, and discourage others from acquiring our karaoke music without paying us for it. If you are a singer who enjoys going to shows, encourage your host to “Get Legit or Quit” – over 90% of karaoke hosts have not paid for some or all of their music, which means we are not able to produce the Sound Choice quality products which most of you prefer. If you suspect that your host is not legit, report it to us – stealing hurts you, the legitimate hosts, and Sound Choice and its employees and their families. Hopefully, with your help, we can turn the tide and return to producing the best quality karaoke music in the industry.

Who knows, they may still hold to that IF piracy subsides - probably not however.

My understanding is that SC is (or was a few months ago) evaluating releasing their content on the KJMP product.

No surprise here. Except for an EXTREMELY limited release ( 750 units?) of a single disc in 2009, they haven't been in production since 2007- almost five years.
Since they made a good product, it's certainly a loss to the industry. On the other hand, who can blame them?
A settlement is what- $7500 bucks? How many man hours would have to go into marketing, production, and sales to move enough discs to match that? Even when they do, the profit margin would be MUCH less. Here they can get a forced sale of GEM discs ( or not, it doesn't really matter, as the settlement's the same) with no marketing or sales man-hours to worry about. Just ten settlements = $75,000.00!! Does anyone really believe they are going to give up that income source to push CDs again?
IMHO, that part of SC's operations is a done deal.

So here is the question, If SC were to add their product to the KJMP drive, yould you buy? If you were not considering the KJMP, would the expanded library make you reconsider? I already own the KJMP drive and would love for SC to come on board regardless if they never make new music.

IMHO, that part of SC's operations is a done deal. The Gem is intended for professional kj so adding SC to the KJMP drive would add to their bottom line regardless whom the customer is including home users since CB has sold the drive to several home users. Can you say potential broader market base.

At the moment, I'm on the boarder on getting the KJMP drive (leaning toward getting), if SC added their library it would be a slam dunk. I have almost 400 SC discs and even more Chartbuster discs. Even with the large number of discs I already have, having access to both libraries would more than make it worth my while.

that would make it much more appealing as they made tracks that CB never did, and just giving more opportunity for both to get what they want. could you imagine if SC got their stuff back and did rock again? SC do all the rock stuff, CB focus on the country? everyone sticks to their strengths, no multi manu dupes, and neither loses out on sales from the other manu as they do not produce the same songs. put it all on KJMP and look out. if not.....go hit Zoom & Sunfly to get in on KJMP.

Sound Choice has no plans. I agree with others, they could make money off this and have a very small investment.

I'm sure that there are some licensing issues that they would have to deal with.... like licensing (again) to be distributed in a digital format... unlike the discs in their gem series that had a 30-song limitation. They cannot just plop them on a drive and start selling.

Just because the settlement is $7,500, doesn't mean SC gets the full amount. Remember out of that comes court and legal fees and other expenses.

While I didn't figure anybody would think there would be NO investment, considering they could take this venture on with most likely NO new employees, of course there would be licensing fees. But any profits now go to the company of 9 or whatever compared to 78 or whatever so I stick with my original assessment, it would be a small investment.

If soundchoice were to offer their track on the KJMP drive, I would buy it without any hesitation or reservation even knowing that it is extremely unlikely that soundchoice plans to release new music, and even tho I am currently no longer working. I'd still be able to get any new release that chartbuster offered.
Hell its cheaper than purchasing custom discs, and I could rent the drive/software out to a few of my kj freinds who don't have as substantial a library as I do.
that would be a total no brainer!!

Common sense says " no return, no investment".
Being a business , IF ( everyone understands "if" right?) the market viability returns . I'm sure SC would love to produce music again.
I haven't seen any indication that viability is returning. Have you?
Only an irrational person would expect ANY business to lose money on something that has proven to be a bad risk.

Only an irrational person would expect ANY business to lose money on something that has proven to be a bad risk. I understand " if". And if your assertion is true, how does that explain the companies that are and have been producing new music profitably in the years prior to and since soundchoice threw in the towel? Wouldn't that be an indication that the market viability is and always has been there?
