I personally think the songs should be sung as is...the artists wrote the song and you need show repect for the artist by singing it the way it was written. If you dont want to then dont do the song Also bars are a grown up play ground...cant handle the fire get out of the kitchen

Yes... this is all about RESPECT... RESPECT to the rules set forth in one's show (you should know all about that!). GeminiMALE40 wrote: Also bars are a grown up play ground...cant handle the fire get out of the kitchen Try demanding to sing that song at Lonnie's show and see how far RESPECT gets you!!! Besides that, Chip is in direct contact with Red Peters, and said he is working with him to get a rewrite of the song without the adult language (just for Karaoke). How's that for RESPECT???

I'm working on a sneak peek (exclusive to Karaoke Scene) of some of the songs that we're talking about and it will give you a better idea of how these songs go.

Cue, your last statement says it all....kudos to you. Our world has become so "me me me" that respect and responsibility does't have much meaning anymore. Yes we are free to say what we think, but we we need to think before we say it. Thank you for clarifying it.

How far do you guys go with the language censoring? Is it strictly the F-bomb or what about songs such as "Rapper's Delight" with it's references to "damn", "super sperm", etc.?

I would think it would be words that some patrons would find offensive. Not all songs have to necessarily contain profanity, there are plenty of songs that a KJ has to censor depending on the venue and audience. For example, the song "Barbie Girl" by Aqua doesn't contain any profanity per se.... but, if you let a 13 yr. old girl sing it at a school function, the "moms in the room" will kill you.... that's because they find it offensive to see a little girl singing "You can undress me anywhere." But if they're in high school, the chaperons will have a wider leeway.

Mainly the F-bomb - and the rest is pretty much dependant on how it's used in the song if it's used in a derogatory manner probaby not going to fly, however if a song repeats some words over and again, they will most likely be dropped. I don't consider Rappers Delight in that catagory as a censor needed song.

It's obvious that you wouldn't play "the closing song," but there are a number of other songs that have explicit content without necessarily being profanity. Rappers delight is one of those songs, "Barbie girl" is another one of those songs with sexual content but no profanity.

Someone did Baby Got Back last night at our show. Not a swear word in the whole song, but double-entrendres out the wazoo. As long as we are speaking of wazoos, that is....

You'll find that playing that song in a corporate function would be a no-no, the human resources people don't like that song even though it doesn't contain any direct profanity in a corporate setting, it is still sexual content. of course in a bar or club, that's a whole different animal and you are subject to the rules and regulations of the owner or manager of the club. Some of the double entendre songs are not appreciated even by the patrons in a club. One song that comes to mind is "the pussycat song". If you have an older group, they will think it's funny one time and one time only. And sometimes it is not the management of the club that dictates the policy, it is the patrons. The older group of patrons will not appreciate these types of songs as much as a younger crowd will. And that is simply because their upbringing was much different and they were not raised with such different attitude of sexuality.

If you can't handle Baby Got Back, suggest a different hangout. We don't allow F-Bombs in my show, but double-entendre is a different story. Though I don't carry the Pussycat Song, Blow Me, or Ballad Of A Dog Named Stains on purpose. I wouldn't allow it at my State Park gig.

I wouldn't allow it at my State Park gig. And rightly so. There are venues where the songs are appropriate and there are venues where they are not appropriate. I would imagine a gig at a state park would be similar to a Disney show, you have all age groups in your audience so you must keep it clean. However, at a high school graduation party, I had one kid come up and asked to sing "big balls" by AC/DC and when I refused, he came back with his father. The father explained that they would both sing it together, and I explained that I would announce a disclaimer before they did it because of the older group of grandparents that were in attendance. They were fine with that, and yes, the older group were offended, however, they also realized that it was not my idea.
