I don't consider Rappers Delight in that catagory as a censor needed song. It's obvious that you wouldn't play "the closing song," but there are a number of other songs that have explicit content without necessarily being profanity. Rappers delight is one of those songs, "Barbie girl" is another one of those songs with sexual content but no profanity. As long as there is no heavy swearing, I don't care. It's not my rule. The owner hates the F-Bomb being used and definitely does not want to hear screamed over a PA system for all. She realizes it's going to be said at tables between people, but not all people want to hear it - this I have learned over the years.

I wouldn't allow it at my State Park gig. And rightly so. There are venues where the songs are appropriate and there are venues where they are not appropriate. I would imagine a gig at a state park would be similar to a Disney show, you have all age groups in your audience so you must keep it clean. However, at a high school graduation party, I had one kid come up and asked to sing "big balls" by AC/DC and when I refused, he came back with his father. The father explained that they would both sing it together, and I explained that I would announce a disclaimer before they did it because of the older group of grandparents that were in attendance. They were fine with that, and yes, the older group were offended, however, they also realized that it was not my idea. I allow Big Balls. Not a dirty song.

That's great for you! You have your rules, I have mine. This particular one is set by the people that pay me for the last 20 years. Don't like it? I can tell you the locations of other shows that allow it and you can go there.

I probably would allow it, it's not a dirty song, only can be taken that way. I did a 16th B-Day party in which I asked if anything would be off limits to the parents, they directly said to me - anything goes. So the kids took that and ran with it. Because I Got High - Afroman was the first song sung.

What would you have done if you had not and they wanted to sing it? (complete with "was gonna eat....")

If I hadn't cleared ahead of time I would have either asked someone in charge if it was ok or not allowed it and told them to pick another song.

I first told the kid that he could not sing it, and then he returned with his father, and it was the father that approved it and said he would even sing with him. So I did in fact, clear it ahead of time with the parent. the only difference in this case is that I did it exactly the opposite from your steps.

When sung properly, almost any song can sound dirty. I enjoy singing seemingly "innocent" songs to my woman in karaoke and she along with everyone else always gets the message. For example, I have done "Longfellow Serenade", "Do That To Me One More Time", "All Of Me", "So Into You", "Don't Leave Me This Way" and many others without any profanity, yet made them sound down right pornographic without changing the words.
In fact my parents come out now and then, and after witnessing one of those songs, my mother (74 years old), took great pride in requesting I sing "Slow Hand", "I'd Love To Lay You Down", and "I Got The Hoss" because of the suggestive nature of the songs and knowing I would play that up.
You don't need dirty words to make a song dirty. It's more fun putting those thoughts in the heads of others without the profanity.

I just had to implement this into my rules at the front of my book. "All explicit lyrics songs are venue specific, and are at the discretion of the karaoke host, please ask before submitting these songs." My venue is a "hotel lounge", and we get people that are staying there, and come down to the lounge to relax, and see (or participate) in the entertainment, NOT to be offended by someone who just wants to see how many profane words they can scream over the mic. It WAS allowed until about a month ago, when the crowd turned the show into a F@#$ Fest. Started out with a girl changing the lyrics to "Nobody" by Sylvia. Made it into a raunchy version. Once she was done, came "Piece fo sh!t car", and it went downhill from there. Many of my regulars, and hotel guests (I could see) were very uncomfortable, and after the show, I decided to add the new rule. It's just NOT the show I want to be known for, or be the host of. As others have said, I can tell them the shows in the area that they can sing them, and would be happy to point them in that direction. The last thing I want is for a hotel guest to go complain to the owners about coming to the lounge, and being offended by vulgarity.

Red Peters does have a song that has no profanity in it, it's about the breakup of a romance where the guy is telling the girl to think about their romance, and when she does think about him, to think about him "long and hard." It has a country sound to it.

The Kid dies, and the Father narrates how he remembers the boy calling out to the dog... "Come Stains."

I think I get where most of you folks are on the F-Bomb. What about the B- word? Do you allow "Gin and Juice" for example?

I think it's best to ask in advance what the venue will allow.... most of the time i get a no, but then i throw in how about after midnight? cause most grand parents and prude's are gone by then and the ones that hang around after that like to sing the same dirty songs as every body else.
songs sung the most after midnight are homemade versions of: Adult summer nights(summer nights) - i did the graphics for it I did you babe(i got you babe) - i also did the graphics for stick my with your big c#$k(hit me with your best shot) - i also did the graphics for
