I think as long as the club is paying their PR fees (ASCAP/BMI/SESAC) that nothing is going to happen as well. I would probably worry a little more if the club wasn't paying anything.

For the record, Tricerasoft has stated that there license specifically states FOR KJ USE, which means that this site would be legal in both the US and Canada because that's where they are licensed to sell downloads.

If anyone wants to verify this, they can contact them directly.

Not quite. I asked them to verify "For KJ Use" here on the forum, and slid out. Yup, as far as I know, legal for Canada ( and their different laws) but not the U.S.- and Tricerasoft has refused to confirm U.S. licensing for said use.

At the risk of repetition, NO U.S. blanket license for this use has EVER been drafted to the agreement of all those who participate in production. Simply speaking, unlike the UK and other countries worldwide, no such U.S. licensing even exists for the use of downloads in a U.S. based show.

Once again, I invite any who disagree to feel free to post a copy of such a license. So far- after years of asking- no one has done so.

Any U.S. based host using downloads is as open to lawsuits as any pirate, whether they paid in good faith or not.

Buy the discs.

Doesn't matter, even the discs from the UK aren't legal in the states.

Nope, audio only.

It's always been easier (and cheaper) for manus to get simple mechanical rights to record their own (cover) version of a song. Since karaoke doesn't mean 'words on the screen' like some believe, it means 'empty orchestra' - music minus vocals - so these tracks are standard karaoke tracks, without graphics - just like the old cassette & 8 Track days. It may be easier for one to start creating their own graphics with the purchased background audio - however this will bring any 'sync' legal issues on the kj that created them - if any should happen to arise.

Discs, downloads, everything COULD be illegal. I'm writing my own material, double checking to make sure I'm not copying someone else's songs, and creating cdgs for them. Maybe now I'm safe?
