I would love to have a karake player at my house but not sure which direction to go in. I have 2 yahama 400 ASR powered speakers, a large peavey board and a shure beta vocal mic already so would love to take advantage of all that. Not sure if i should buy a new powerful computer, load up software and go that route or if i should buy a player and a monitor and go that route. I also would like the ability to record vocals (and mix them separately) so that should play into my decision as well. HELP!

All you need is a laptop...and not even fancy one (I use refurbed IBM Thinkpads from eBay. Less than $100 each. )

You already have everything else.

Thanks for the reply. What software should I run on the laptop? Would I need a sound card or anything? I have an old desktop sitting next to my board today and it is connected into the Peavey via cables so I can play internet music through my board and speakers. The desktop is old and slow though.

For your house? I'm a disc based host, but I have Karafun on my office PC to test disc tracks. It's a free download, and it includes things like digital keychange, etc.

I don't know why it wouldn't work for you at home....

On the other hand, if you have the discs, a player would be much simpler, and easier to use.
