Mental disorders would definitely explain people who come totally unglued when you tweak the rotation slightly, or don't have their specific version of a song.

:D

Not that anybody cares about what I think... :lol: but here's my take on the subject;
Singing is like a drug. At first you sing, because you're in pain or feeling bad.
Then before you know it......you're singing just to feel normal.

JR hit it on the head--because then to feel normal, you have to sing more and more songs and then you start buying more and more discs to learn more and more songs and then you buy better equipment to play your songs even better and next thing you know you have to run karaoke shows every week to stay in that comfort zone of feeling abnormal.

Well, I can admit that I don't drink as much now due to karaoke. My sister recorded a performance I did in a stupor and showed it to me and my kids the next morning. They still talk about it. Yeah...liquor and lyrics are a bad mix...yikes!

I would like to add that I feel that singing, especially in public, is actually medication for the soul. Whether to vent built up hostility, relieve stress, or simply let go of the sadness within.

I begin to say how many tell me that they feel so much better after the show, just because they sang.

I know one woman who I call the Pocket Cutie who had absolutely no life before she started singing karaoke. Since then, she has made a lot of friends, has a social life outside of karaoke, and smiles all of the time- a much happier person.

No, we don't save lives like doctors, feed the hungry, or stop wars- but we do make many individuals' daily lives a bit easier to bear. In the these stressed filled ultra-competitive time, I consider that important as well.

Joe, can I just say that reading your post literally brought a tear to my eye. Karaoke is what you said and more... and considering the crazyiness of the news on TV and in the papers, who wouldn't be depressed?

Come out a night of howling good times with friends, and let it go for a few hours. Get up and perform and enjoy the applause... Yes, karaoke is good for the soul and heart!
