Rules:

We are judging primarily the quality of music.
Cost can be a factor (but not the cost of settling!)
Reliable production and delivery can be a factor.

Keep opinions about their business practices to yourself and out of the equation.

Go!

Sound Choice is my usual go-to for oldies.
DK is usually my second, though MM usually has some good oldies. I've found many Legends & Sunfly tracks that I can & sometimes actually prefer to sing. For newer songs, I like PHM & CB. I still like Pioneer for oldies, but not CB, though they have some good country oldies. This question has many variations, that make it hard to precisely answer. We've talked about this in the past, but due to changing times, I(for one) think it's good to bring it up again...... :)

If I can find a track on DK or Legends, I will use those. Otherwise is pretty much falls to Sound Choice, Chartbusters, Sunfly, PHM. There are a few SBI tracks I really like but that is very few. While I will include just about any track from any manufacturer in my library, i am getting to the point of wanting to narrow down to just a few manufacturers and select discs.

DK
Legends
Sound Choice
Chartbusters
Sunfly/PHM

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if a pirate carries everything but SC & CB, nobody from the karaoke manus will bother them.(at the present time)
Could play into someone's idea of favorite brands.... :)

We have some of almost everyone but the ones I tend toward are Sound Choice, Chartbuster, Zoom and SBI. Legends has some good, some bad. I have been buying some Pocket Songs lately. We do have some PHM but I just don't like the part about half the disc being demo versions.

Agree. SBI & Zoom have the best newest music on downloads. PHM 3rd for lateness in releases.

SC for ALL Rock if possible. Pioneer for 80's Rock too.

CB for Country. Bought a few stardiscs..not good!

Pioneer or DK for oldies. MM if i HAVE TO.

Ohhh....what was the question. :o

My fav 5. :)

SC
PIONEER
SBI
PHM
CB

We get our Zoom/SBI on custom discs, just so people know they are also available that way.

DK
SC
CB
PHM

Last slot is very difficult. I guess I would have to say Sunfly these days -- readily available downloads of decent quality in a variety of genres (now that they do country).

DK

SuperCore/Karaoke Kurrents for newer releases

CB for country, though this genre has faded in popularity a bit in the NJ/NY area.

Legends

MM for oldies.

That's the TOP 5 most used, but I like many others as well.

Joe C,

I have to ask, because you continually reference them...

What or where or who, exactly, is the source of SuperCore/Karaoke Kurrents?

I can't locate the company and I can't find them retail anywhere. Only eBay.

Can you enlighten me? How can I find their catalog or be notified of their updates?

In the UK Sunfly is the most popular but now recent releases Mr Entertainer are becoming the norm

I prefer Zoom
Then the Dark Knight for older classics

In the UK for recent chart songs all "Mr Entertainer" ,"Sunfly" and "SBI" use exactly the same backing track made by SBI and they just add different graphics, sunfly stopped the free most wanted Disc with the Hits series so many UK KJ's have gone over to Mr entertainer as they are less expensive BUT sound exactly the same and the graphics are of good quality and timing.

so my personal top five are
Zoom
Sunfly (for older chart)
Mr Entertainer (modern chart)
DK (for older classics)
Laughing Gnome (obscure tracks made locally not on other labels)

Thanks for that clarification, Rob. It saves having to listen to all three versions and decide among them if they are really the same. But the confusing thing is, Zoom includes Sunfly on it's website. You would think if they were partnering up, that Sunfly would be using Zoom tracks instead of SBI. Or maybe Zoom is just covering a way to have both?

A few years ago I was looking for a karaoke version of a James Taylor song as a gift to a friend. I went to the local karaoke store and listened to all the different versions they had. The Radio Starz disc had the best rendition. It had the best sounding guitar work in it. I don't think Radio Starz is made any more.

that is very interesting because i have listened to a LOT of sunfly tracks and the SBI always sounds better to me.

course their tracks are ripped at 192 or better and sunfly is 128 at least from the site where i get them.

but as to the original question
soundchoice overall except for oldies
zoom *not only do they make good tracks, there customer service is
top notch*
chartbusters
sbi
Pop Hits monthly/stellar
sunfly

I would put dkk but they are no longer available.

My favourite canadian brands that are the best quality anywhere but very limited selection are
karaokemaker then sing king

the best brand for broadway musicals which most people here avoid like the plague is Pocketsongs/stage stars.

Don't know why you can't find them retail. I first found them that way. Here's the history:

KJ Tools was bought by SuperCore. Any KJ Tools version of a song ( KJ Tools was only 12 discs) is the SuperCore version. SuperCore put out every year for awhile, bringing their original set to 38 discs. Later, they added more discs under that label, starting with 1001 and going to 10015. After that the label became Karaoke Kurrents, as well as All Country Hits. They are a mid-range to high quality producer, depending on the track.

The thing about them is that they are way UNDER-priced for the quality. I certainly wouldn't put them with DK, SC, CB, or Zoom, but only slightly below. I can, without question, rate them above Stellar's generic ( though quickly released) quality on almost ALL tracks. In particular, Their All Country label is WAY better than Stellar, though no match for CB.

Also, almost ALL the tracks on any given disc are users, as opposed to some mfrs. where something like 3/4 never get used.

Further, this is a composition company, now mfring. in Japan. They have agreements with other companies, and you may find tracks from almost all the top brands on their discs.
